DOOM 3 - sucks or sucks badly?

FIrst off, this thread will tick of a few members of the religion of Id, so if you fall into that category, please troll elsewhere.

Now down to some facts

The game ships with no co-op - this was what caused so many of us to run rj-58 and play co-op at work with doom on boot floppy

Multiplayer - You have to buy a copy of the full retail game, dedicated server mode and you must keep the retail CD in the drive. And then you are limited to 4 people. Server is unstable, fail its startup sequence. Any errors on the console and its crashing out with no errors. Change the text name of the server to ABCDE and watch it crash repeatedly.

Co-op and more then 4 hacks are in the works, but I am talking out of the box.

Lastly, while some people are running through the game, I know people, especially the group of us that went during lunch from work to pick up our copies (or for the two that did - their preordered copies)

None of us are having any luck. First elevator and CTD. Move around after elevator and see the game freeze.

Yes, I have check on the boards and seen people loving it, and people hating it, but this is a long awaited major bucks spent on advertising, and my feet are still sticky from all the drool PCGamer spewed in every issue about how great this game was.

Oh well my h/w must suck - sorry - 1gb ram, 9800, P4 3.0 800FSB. Like I said, we went from work at lunch to pick up the game. None of us are suing PC's mom and dad picked up for us. We are talking some nice machines with some nice gear. Pieces or parts high end as people upgrade or rebuild. No clunker dogs int he bunch.

doom 3 is a nice game that keeps me busy when im home injured from work

i dont have a top of the line system either

i dun much like the 3-5 min it takes to boot up a level

i dont experence the freezing at the elevators

i got a dell with 2 ghz and 512 ram... unknown 128 ram vid card.... seems to run when it is runnin... im not much for co-op or deathmatchs... i tend to play most mmorpgs for that... since i shell out a bit of money a month for everything

but all in all... its a nice game

I'm not overly thrilled with the game but I do like it. The graphics are great (well if you don't see the same thing over and over) The atmosphere is good too but to me it's just another FPS with a lil higher scare factor thrown in. I'm not so sure it's living up to the hype tho

Doom 3 - I bought it, played it for about 5 hours....and all I can say is wait for it to be in the bargin bin before you buy it.

The game has nice graphics from what you can see - it is very very dark and all the gamma in the world will not fix it.

The game AI is simply Doom 1 all over again. In other words way way out of date for the times.

The game play is

1. get PDA card to open previously located locked door.

2. open door - kill spawns

3. watch for spawns comming behind you from previously cleared areas

4. go to step 1.

over and over and over again. I kid you not.

the worst 50 dollas i spent on comp game.. especially considering all the hype it got.. i would say a 4 on 1-10 skill just because of the graphics.. and i have top end machine runnin it. My friend got it for his XBOX and its awesome on it, but we arent talking about the XBOX game are we..

Thankfully a fried has it. He paid 54.95 at Best Buy for his....he's pretty pissed. He didn't like it and I had a chance to play it for a few hours.

Its scary so I like that but you progressed really too fast even on the hard levels. Its a good game but for 50+ dollars....no way

Poor Doom. I don't think it's a bad game, I just think the insanely worshipping crowd built it up into a game it couldn't possibly be with their insane expectations. I think the same is going to happen to Half-Life 2. Now we have to live through all the Insane Fanboy Rage when it doesn't compare to the game that exists only in their minds.

hehe, the marketing didnt help either....i mean 54.95? for a game? come on...they knew people who pay it cause it was hyped up so much

If it was 29.99 or 39.99 I would buy it....but for a FPS game where you pick up weapons and shoot at bad guys and solve an occasional puzzle here and there? not for 54.95....and not for 49.99

Im not sure where you guys shop, but I Only paid 46 and some odd cents for it. But, anyway. I never followed the game and never believed any of the hype about it, so when I actually played it, it was fun. Was a good addition to the doom line, since it wasnt going to be anything more than DOOM game, kill 'em all FPS with no goal except to kill 'em all.

And all I can say about the crash problems you had, well I have a P4 3.0 ghz GForce4ti 128 with 512 ram and never had a single problem at any point in the game.

Run and Gun boring ass FPS game with excellent graphics. I would only recommend buying this game if a great mod was released for it down the road. By itself, Doom 3 sucks! Far Cry is much better than this game. I was really never expecting much from this game. Seriously, all they hype I heard about was the awesome graphics, which the graphics are awesome. But other than that, I never heard any hype over the gameplay. And the gameplay is what sucks in this game. "Go into dark room, shoot zombies, go into next room, shoot more zombies...wash rinse and repeat..." Boring as FUCK!

This game is highly over-rated in my opinion. Maybe id should just stick to what they do best, creating game engines. By looking at their last two games, they don't seem to be very innovative in the gameplay department anymore.

Bottom line: don't buy this game! It's a complete waste of money at it's current price.

This game is 1 of the best it is the best graphics so far i know i have it i also have far cry doom 3 has better graphics.. but the 1 thing its hard to play with is its dark ness theres alot of it u have to have a flash light the whole time and when u see a bad guy or zombie w/e u would like to call it ... pops out u gotta switch ur gun then u cant see the zombie.. ... put overal 1 of the best games i ever played.. i recomend buying it ,., but u need a great comp to play it.. it has a specail quilty that will crash ur pc if u cant use it with ur comp.. ultra high qulity dont use it unless u got a great comp.. ok ill let u leave messages now ..

~Dark is the only thing i see in this game....

I haven't played it yet, but I've got it on order and should be here this week. Watched one of my friends play it on his new pc, with the lights out and the sound up. Nearly pissed in my pants. ::::40::

I bought it because I am a fan of "cinematic horror type" fps games. These games are not for all people as they tend not to be as fast paced as other fps games.

There will be some awesome mods for Doom 3 as well. Get it if you like a cinematic, horror type fps, but if you need more fast paced action and don't like being in the dark with "hell spawned" creatures jumping out at you, go with UT2k4 or FarCry. America's Armyv2.1 is not a bad FPS either, and it is free if your don't want to pay for a game.

edit: I don't know why people are fussing about the price. Most new pc and console games are anywhere form $40 to $50 at release unless you get a discount via a coupon or special promotional or something.

Well i have only geforce 2mx so i cant say much about graphics here but what i want to say is that "Nearly pissed in my pants. ::::40:: " feeling last only till you pass aplha lab 4..well at least in my case...than when you make first few levels you get some kind of immunity against all jumpin creatures on your back or right before your face...and at that moment game lost somethin big....

So atmosphere from begging is great you will be scared and scout dark rooms with flashlight, at entrance,meter by meter and when you get enought courage you will run in and switch for weapon and kill all spawns and when you are lucky you wont piss into your pants

But as i said atmosphere are falling after few missions

I like Doom 3.. especially with some of the mods out. There are a whole lot of 'em on fileplanet.com. Everything from 32 players with multiplayer to having a flashlight equipped with your gun.
