Video Info Q&A on Raids in Game:

AmazingAveryAmazingAvery Age of Conan AdvocateMember UncommonPosts: 7,188

Hey this is a few months old now, from January Community Event, and was originally posted on Stage 6 Divx website but since the closure, its now on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0OAu09STn4

Remember some things could be different come release due to the nature of beta.

So this is for those that like raiding and want to hear more about it :)  Remember Raiding is one facet of a few to the Endgame structure of AoC. You don't have to raid and you are not forced too.

PS. I am not the Russian guy asking the questions!

    • All raids take place at LvL 80, because of the effort it takes to organise.
    • People would out level raid structuce if they were added earlier on in the game.
    • All raids will be 24 man groups (4 full groups)
    • All raids are in Instanced Dungeons
    • At game launch there will be 8 Raid Dungeons for launch, May 20th
    • There will be 19 major Raid encounters (one boss or many bosses)
    • Raids are divided into 3 tiers ( 3 different levels of difficulty)
    • Progressive system - need to do the easier ones to get to the harder ones
    • Currently set to one member in the Raid can progress the group along (subject to change)
    • There will be safe zones
    • Lots of mobs in Dungeons that Do Not respawn
    • They aim for it to be one Dungeon run straight thru and not time taken up fighting alot of respawns if you die
    • Once a week to finalize a Raid Dungeon, If you clear it out before a week it will remain empty till one week timer is up.
    • 2  to 2 1/2hrs playtime for each of them ( IF you know what you are doing!! )
    • Once everything is unlocked from the 8 raid dungeons leaving tier 3 stuff, there will be enough content to happily raid each week.
    • New people joining your group who are first time raiders will experience where you are up to, so if you have cleared a dungeon they will see this too, until it resets after a week.

No 6,12 or 18 size raids?! Might be a mistake IMO

At game launch there will be 8 Raid Dungeons for launch, May 20th

Good to hear there will be a good amount of end game starting from day 1, was worried for a second about this

Progressive system - need to do the easier ones to get to the harder ones

I'm not sure I like this idea, will be fun to see how it pans out. Progressive raiding is nice but not for the same instance. Repetition ftl. Seems like a quick content filler.

Currently set to one member in the Raid can progress the group along (subject to change)

Any more word on this anywhere else, seems like this can be exploited  pretty easily. Will help support PUG like groups after content is a few months old is the only reason I can see for this. Think they should raise this to at least half if not more. Will promote guilds working together a bit more without the worry of a few members going off to make coin for slower progressing guilds and missing lockout timers is my first thought, need to contemplate this one a bit more to weigh the pros and cons

Lots of mobs in Dungeons that Do Not respawn

/cheers, nothing like clearing hours of trash just to reclear it a couple hours later, great move by the devs

Once a week to finalize a Raid Dungeon, If you clear it out before a week it will remain empty till one week timer is up.

Ahh the lockout timers :( Its a necessary evil though.

2  to 2 1/2hrs playtime for each of them ( IF you know what you are doing!! )

So we are looking at 16 to 20 hours of raid time a week? This seems nice until content becomes obsolete, hopefully they content patch more than some other games out there.

Overall this looks promising, I'm nitpicking a bit here but if all this is true then I'm definitely going to grab this title up!

Could you elaborate on the sentence "Remember Raiding is one facet of a few to the Endgame structure of AoC" ?

Some could argue that the same thing could be said about WOW, personally I disagree to that. You obtain by far the best

    pve equipment thru raids,

the best proffesion recepies/patterns thru raids

the most badges for alternative equipment thru raids

and after the latest patch the best pvp equipment (arena aside) thru raids.

by far the most development rescources goes into creating raid content

I would appreciate to hear if this is the structure that AOC will use as well?

I do know the only socketed items in game will be the ones crafted. I have a feeling that there will be a very nice balance between raid gear and crafted gear, and its about time. Tired of every mmo having decent crafting only to weed it out at end lvls for raiding gear.

I hope the dev's don't drop the ball on this. I hope for a mix of things.

But honestly the raid setup how they have it now sounds pretty solid. Will have to wait and see.

Basically what AoC proposes is that PvE gear you get from doing PvE stuff.  What they mean by this is that if you want to do better on raids do more lower tier raids and get better stuff.  PvP gear will be gotten though PvP.  If you want to kill better and harder, participate more in the PvP aspect of the game.  They have stated that PvP gear will not give you any bonuses in PvE content and vice versa so each type of player can play their own style and have the gear they want and get it the way they play.

The mentioned that crafted items will be more customizable to suite whatever purpose you intend for them so I'm guessing you'll be able to get socketable gems from various sources and thus make the gear you want.

As far as having LEVEL 80 raids available from day one and having people being worried that they weren't gonna be there at the start is kind of lost on me.  It's not like you'll be able to do any of them till you max out, a process that may take some time, hopefully longer then a month IMO.  This would give them plenty if time to work on them more and tweak whatever they want to fix or redo.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
