Thinking of trying

VladarionVladarion Member UncommonPosts: 204

If i like it i'll stay on till WAR, but i got some questions.  First off, is it really a good idea to go to this game based on the fact of me loving PvP and also wanting to go for the fact that Mythic is working on Warhammer, which i can't wait to play?  The biggest reason why i want to try it is for the RvR.  I want to see what this is really all about and how it works.

Secondly, is this game newbie friendly?  I come from WoW and I have to say the game has spoiled me in some ways.  I am just wondering if i can jump into this game and feel comfortable.  The first mmo i ever played was EQ years and years ago and i got so addicted to that game that my parents actually banned me from the game lol.  I guess why i got so addicted was because number one it was my first mmo, but i think now it was more so that the game always had me overwhelmed with the amount of things i could do and the community was quite easy to get to know and the such.  WoW did the same for me, only i was much more mature than back in the EQ days and WoW was really when i started getting into PvP.  I really like the fact that in WoW you can PvP pretty much anytime you want to the only problem i have with it is the lack of world pvp.  I want things like WAR is supposed to bring.  I want world pvp objectives where i can take control of some place and turn it into my realm or my territory(not limited to just this though)...i don't know if DAoC offers this though.  So if you could just give me a break down of the pvp that'd be great lol.

Last i want to ask if anyone who has been playing or new to the game as well wants to play the trial with me.  If i truly enjoy my time i plan to subscribe on and play till release of WAR so this is people's chance out there to get a free month of DAoC lol.  Anyways, i hope you can help me and sorry if i didn't make sense in some areas, i am quite tired from a day at work.  Thanks!

Well if you enjoy pvp you will enjoy Dark Age of Camelot. Just make sure you spec your character well. As a noobie I recommend a hybrid or tank class. Albion Friar,Hibernias Vampir,Valewalker or a Midgard Valkrie. The best of those mentioned would be a Friar or Valewalker. Come to Gareth :-D much fun there!!

    Welcome to DAOC!

Well, to answer your question on pvp I will try to break it down for you because it is pretty vast.

I feel the need to break the game down for you a bit first tho so you understand what you are doing.

In regards to the "newbie friendly" question. This all depends on your understanding of MMO's and how good you are at playing and understanding them. Sadly DAoC has a greater learning curve over games such as wow that hand walk you step by step through everything from walking to swinging your sword for the first time. DAoC does have a tutorial mode now, which helps but doesn't explain fully the vastness of the game.

You also mentioned you would play the trial. This is also going to be an issue, because if you are a hardcore pvp player, the only true hardcore pvp happens at 50, when playing against the other good players of DAoC. They have lv 1-50 battlegrounds, but these only serve as a training ground and lack any "real" feel as to what true RvR will be like. The 14 day trial will not be enough time for you to reach 50 and get good enough armor and weapons sets to compete. This generally takes about 3-4 weeks with the help of a really good guild.

Now to address your RvR question. RvR in DAoC is broken down into many different facets.

Battlegrounds - broken down every 5 levels, example 1-5, 6-10, 11-15 so on.

Battlegrounds usually house 1 realm keep for each of the 3 sides, and a "Main Keep" to fight over. The objective in these areas is to take and hold the center main keep for as long as possible as it gives you a very distinctive edge over the other realms if you control it.

New Frontiers - NF is a HUGE Tri-Zone map. Each realm has many many "Main Keeps", 2 "Realm Keeps" (which house the realms relics like merlin's staff), and more keep towers than you can shake a stick at. NF is an objective based warzone, where players, groups and guilds, battle it out over the relics, the main keeps and all the towers of the zones. The main objective in NF is to capture your enemies relics, and hold more towers and keeps than the other 2 realms. Doing this unlocks the "Darkness Falls" dungeon for your realm, and also gives your realm stat buffs depending on how many objectives you hold over your enemy. Example would be +5% melee damage or +3% coin drop from mobs. The more your realm has the much more beneficial it is for you as the player.

Labyrinth of the Minotaur - This is the newest PvP zone added to the game and is usually VERY active. This is for the cut throat PvP players. Imagine Unreal tourney FFA fragfest and you have some idea of what LotM is like. It is a reconstruction of the Labyrinth of old, where all three realms have access to it in a close quarter combat enviroment. The zerg is key here. Usually in any given night you will have 2 groups from each realm 40 players at a time smashing into each other in a lost corridor somewhere bashing the crap outta each other. Good fun if you enjoy seeing who will be the last one standing. Labyrinth has no objectives per say, however it holds MANY cool bosses and access portals to the 3 main dragons of the game. The realms usually end up fighting over bosses or rights to the tunnels. Hopefully you get the picture.

Darkness Falls - Exactly the same as the Labyrinth.

Last PvP option in DAoC is Dueling. If you ever just wanna fight, you can duel any member of your realm just by issuing a challenge. This is good for settling disputes over who pwns more noobs or just to see who is made of sterner stuff.

Well I hope some of this info helps you.

I play on Devon Cluster, in the guild Dragonsbane. If you wanna come to devon and look us up, I will see if I can't knock that 3-4 week leveling template timefram down for you by a week or 2.

Later, and I hope you play and stick around.
