It's just burnout, we all get it from time to time.

Every game is boring, the MMO market is lifeless and dull, computers are stupid and life sucks.

Then the burnout wears off, you find a new game (or get stuck back into an old one) and all of a sudden the world is sunshine, roses and pretty pretty butterflies again.

The Lion King taught us about the "Circle of Life", well this is the MMO gamer equivalent .. the "Circle of No Life".

I wouldn't be so quick to throw stones when your xfire profile in your sig says that over the past 7 days you've spent more time playing WoW than I have at my job.

Apparently you don't work too hard then, considering I work 48 hours a week at my own job, and have a wife, not to mention a nice set of inlaws that love to drop by at the most inopportune times.

Rather than me playing too much, maybe you work too little. You don't achieve anything in life doing it half-assed. Try putting a little effort into your life, it might help a bit ;)

There's no such thing as "working too little."  I suppose you would need to think such things if your job was your only source of income.  Anyway, enjoy your 5 hours a day of playing WoW leaving 3 hours a day for everything else that isn't sleeping or working.  And I'm the one not putting any effort into life?

Arent those teenage years great? You spend all that time trying to figure things out, only to find out a decade later you were an idiot at best.

    Afff... agreed...

I don't want to be subject to the typical dramatic high-school schemes of relationships and drugs, so that's why I attempt to focus my time on music and video games. This is why I started the topic pertaining to my loss of interest in MMORPG's and possibly games altogether. I never said it was a serious issue, but I don't want to end up losing interest in the very few things I do enjoy; I'd probably end up resorting to drugs like 95% of the rest of the pathetic youth that decides to make the "struggles they've went through" and their "terrible life story" into a contest. I just don't want that to happen, that's all.

Try reading a book. I mean it.

I do read from time to time. The last book read all the way through was Lord of the Flies... Before that was Great Expectations (but that was for school). I am currently reading through a book called Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind (the plot is a bit generic, but it has certain elements that distinguish itself differently from other books of its kind).

Saturday I loaded Diablo on my computer. I bought it "way back when" but never really finished it. In any case, after playing for a small bit I had to laugh. It's nothing but a grind game with a story,. Just like any mmo! Had fun but it made me pause and think that not a lot has changed.
    ...

Most CRPGs are a grind fest.  Only BioWare does it right as far as I'm concerned.

I think the main problem here is cold coffee.  If you are going to do something do it right, I drink about 20 shots of espresso a day.  3 when I wake up, 3 when I get to work.  3 more after an hour of work.  3 after lunch, 3 at 3.  2 when I get home.  Oops, thats only 17.

Having the ability to see that certain paths taken in life can lead to an undesireable end AND having the desire to avoid those paths shows insite and maturity.

Don't worry, you'll do alright.   Just keep your head up when you walk, look life in the eye, and keep your eyes OPEN.   Do that and you will notice how many do not.

Most online games today ARE the same and I really do not expect a change any time soon.   Like all things that are shallow in substance, the bling bling wears off quickly in the video games of today.

Music is a good focus.  Photography, body building, whatever.

And a word to all you young people out that...In the words of Glenn Beck "PULL YOUR DAMN PANTS UP!"  and you will do fine.

The Sword of Truth series, huh? I really enjoy that series. The start may seem uninspired, but it gets better.

Anyway, MMORPGs are and pretty much always have been pretty shallow. The problem is people depend on the devs to make the world for them, and the devs seem to feel it's their responsibility. Well, it isn't. Developers need to empower their players and allow them to build the content they want. In essence, we're just not going to see a truly great MMORPG until a dev decides to give the sandbox approach a shot, and doesn't sell out to the big-wig producers who think they know what players want. Best experiences I've ever had in MMORPGs was always, always through player-run content.

Terry Goodkind is okay, but do yourself a favor and pick up the series George RR Martin is working on.
