Hey all,
I left EQ a few years ago and basically have hopped from game to game since. I am going to pick up the anniversary edition and come back to the world of norrath. I was just wondering, i know they just hasdan expansion not too long ago but i thought i heard somewhere that this was going to be the last one. Is this true or is the game going to continue to develop? How much longer do u estimate Eq will be around?
thanks,
Cen

I came back 3 weeks ago and have been playing on the FV server. The server has too healthy of a population to be closing soon id say. i also played my old char on AB for an hour to see what it was like and that server had a really good pop. compared to most games on the market EQ has a great pop and i really can't see it closing anytime soon.
I really hope the rumour you heard is not true as EQ is still easily the best game out there for me i would love another game to come out with a huge world, long battles that you can use tactics again instead of 5 second fights where its just a case of button smash. Dungeons that make you want to explore, Rare mobs that are actually rare. And yes i love camping and a good old fashioned grind! i want it all back!
Its a company behind this, if they can make profit with a new expansion they will make one. When the developement cost gets close to the money earned from the expansion then i guess they will start thinking about other options.
as long as subscriber numbers are still over 100k i would still expect new expansions. but once subscriber numbers fall below that it will probably get hard to pay for the developement of an expansion with the sales of the packs.
Well they did call it EVERquest ...been thinking about trying it out again myself as I am currently bored to tears. What I would really like to see is for them to take the game they have developed...create a fresh world with the lore they have and restart it all again as a new game. Tweak it a bit here and there and rebalance things but keep the heart of the game itself without trying to reinvent something totally different as some people attempt with 2nd versions.
Well I actually returned to EQ after four years away from it. I am playing on Stromm and things seem to be pretty active and busy. Always people to group with and people willing to help out. And knowing SOE, I do not think they will pull the plug on a game until there is no one left (SWG for example 20k subscribers left and they are still supporting it).
EQ will be here for a while longer I imagine. It's still a good amount of fun.
Playing: Diablo 2, Medievia, SWG EMU
In between: Eq Mac
Retired: Guild Wars (2x), EQ, DAoC, PSO, Tibia, Runescape, WoW, SWG, Maple Story
Waiting: WaR (hesitant), New Star Wars MMO
IMO the current changes being made(AA and flags) will help to get some folks back into game. I fall into this category myself.
I have kept one of my 3 accounts active pretty much over the yrs even though I wasnt playing much the past few yrs.
It wouldnt shock me to know others do as well....which goes a ways in keeping the doors open.
I currently hold a LoTR founder account I keep going at 10 a month also cause I dont wanna lose pricing...heh.
I know it being my first MMO makes my opinion strong/biased, but AFAIAC EQ is still the best game around.
Hands down no less.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
well here is the thing eq is was and always will be a solid game, alot of folks who said when eq2 came out that eq would die were sadly mistaken it wont ever die unlewss they pull the plug .
planetside has around 20k subs and its stillgoing strong and they have a skeleton crew running it and there arent many updates but that is just fine.
everquests only downfall was imho they added way too much to the game and instead of just going with mopre quests/updating graphics they spread everyone out in expansions to the point that it made folks have to travel alot more to find a group.
the game is solid bug free for most part and very runnable on almost everything sold today even emachines.
I too hold my eq accoubnt open and pop on every now and again just to wander around and talk to folks i havent seen in ages.
Some lead and some follow I prefer to stand beside!

Btw, I heard rumours that the game will continue to develop?
I have been playing everquest for 2 years, and I find it suprisinly additive, then I went to play Conquer Online
Does Everquest have the new ingame equpment now?
