Just wondering if anyone played pre-trammel on Great Lakes?

Was thinking about the fun times of UO so I started searching around and found this site.   I cant believe people still play this game, but because of this game no other mmorpg will ever compare.  I played star war galaxies for a  short time a few years back, but  just cant do it.  I only play first person shooters now....like currently Team of Fortress 2.

Anyone play Great Lakes?  If so what was your main charters names? Guild name?

Happy Gilmore , Longfellow , Oliver Goods , Tinkle   guild was WiseGuys  [WG]. We had most of the housing at Britains Cross roads.

I played GL pre-trammel.  My chars were Xemeo and Xem and I was in TKE for the majority of my newer days and I was later in DSS and D0C to fight SiN.

I played GL shortly after Trammel, but played with mostly post Trammel people. It defiantly made me feel an outsider of the community because of it so I must have missed something amazing.

Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.

  • I played great lakes off and on. One of my buddies used to play Great Lakes full time on his thief. Though he played towards the end of  t2a like maybe 5 months prior to trammel. I started back at the end of 99 as well, but trammel has already been released. I enjoyed the game till AoS due to fellucca still being fairly populated.

ahh yes...I remember FS and SiN.  Think we might of even had guild war againist DOC. After finding this site and seeing the top link saying "posting freeshard will get you banned"  It made me want to find out what a freeshard was.  So I searched found a list of them.  Heh...I joined one that has all old school rules.  Of course I cant post details here.   Its fun, but needs more people.  thanks for all the replies.

I played on GL from late 97-2002'ish or so. I was in a number of guilds over that time but mainly was in V.D with Silen, Biggunz, Alexi, Jenova, etc

Was in GoD for a somewhat short time during the massive wars when GoD/DOC alliance was flourishing. After that I was in B*G with Hatcher, Corruption, Hojiah, Iniquitous, and others.

Then Corr Hoj Iniq myself and a couple others briefly joined D-I only to turn on them and join FS! and play out our days with Furb(Stilleto) Necro & co. and I still talk and game with Furby, Necro, Corr, Hojiah, Iniq, Cryo, etc to this day.

my chars were all Magua's. Helios, Vaskir, Vrangex, Zylthor, Brynzal, Fidelio were first names all having last name Magua.

I was on Great Lakes since release. My characters were Acid Rain, Demon Arkanis, Sheeba, Asmodeus and few others. I was in M-N for a lil bit as well as D-I. Then spent some time in B*C. Also gm'd a bunch of guilds. Was amazing times back then. I also play on a oldschool server with extremely accurate t2a ruleset including insta hit. If anyones interested let me know.

I played, and still do after quitting several times, as Trebr Drab.

I remember some of you and the guilds. Hatcher, B*G!! I was in The Eldar, then in the Yew Militia.

I hated you PKers. Ya screwed the pooch, guys. But those were the best days of MMOs anyways. UO had a life like no other, and set in the "worldly" game, it just made it so much more of a gaming world and experience.

Todays UO has gone way too soft, and items based to give it that grind that only the powergamers can compete in. The fantastic trade skills system is now a ritual of manhood, which wouldn't be bad except that at the top you need special tools, which again means that only the powergamers can compete. Anything else is pretty much useless.

The rare items have become mostly commonplace, so the fantastic collections and trade of these is almost gone.

Cheats and dupes have screwed the game so bad it's got no economic game play value.

PvP is item based now, little skill required and timing is pretty much at the lowest common denominator.

    On and on, I guess.

Still, the private servers lack the "massive", which is something important too.

    Once upon a time....

My brother and I played on Great Lakes. He was Darklord and I was DeathBlade. We were in our mid-teens when we came up with those names so not that creative. I wasn't that famous because I mostly played behind the scenes helping my brother out with things. He was pretty respected on the server and as marked as a murderer for what seemed like forever.

We use to play on dial-up so I never got very competitive with PvP due to the very real timing issues with connection differences but I still enjoyed it. My brother learned to adapt and won many tournaments and fights, and when he goes to a friends and got on a high-speed connection no one could touch him it seemed.

Good times were had back then, enjoyed the game a lot even with its cons.

I used to be on Great Lakes as a Mage/Tamer. Tamers were the all time God's in UO. Not only could u solo easy, but in PvP it was so beastly sicking a White Wyrm on someone and watching them die in 3 seconds. Pre trammel I was in a small Chaos guild and wasnt really well known. UO is where I made up my nickname (Wicked Edge) and it has stuck since then. Gawd I miss the old UO Days (pre Age of Shadows). Personally i think AoS ruined one of my all time favorite mmo. I shall forever miss my Nightmares and white Wyrms.

Gotta love UO.  I played on Great Lakes and I'm sure few would remember me.  My characters were named Smither and Gunther Arkon.  They both started off smithing/mining until I gained enough strength to start fighting, got 7x GM warrior type skills, and became a murderer on both characters.  I had houses as my safe points, and loved going to the Lich Lord room to collect paychecks from people who were hunting there.  The thrill of killing or barely escaping a PK cannot be matched by games nowdays.  UO's unparralled immersion was something to behold.  The sandbox was your playground and you could live your medieval life any way you wanted.  I am still waiting on an official pre-Trammel server - if it were ever released I would come back in a heartbeart and pay whatever EA wanted.
