Star Wars Galaxies: Teesquared Technical Report

SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

The Star Wars Galaxies official site debuts a new feature today called the Teesquared Technical Report, which is intended to keep players informed about what the SWG programming team is up to.

Hello and welcome to the first installment of the Teesquared Technical Report. This report will let you know about the cool new features your programming team is working on. Let's meet the team and talk about what's been going on for the last few weeks.

I'm Teesquared, the Technical Director on Star Wars Galaxies. Recently I've been working on some fixes for the live game. When Update 2 went live, we discovered an issue that affected the re-fire rate on ship weapons. I worked with Hanse to help parse the logs the game generated for the players that were affected by the issue.

More recently I worked on a query for the marketing team to use to send emails to former entertainers and medics so that they can come back and enjoy the new changes we have done for those professions.

Keep up the great work guys - were all behind you!

Account has been stolen, why would someone want to steal my account?

So they should  just  give up or roll back because this game sucks really bad now and has for a very long time. Pre cu was out in 2003 and CU hit in 2004 or early 2005. It is now mid 2008 and people are still pissed about how SOE and Lucasarts killed this game and still talking about it. When you consider that the target adolescent audience that they were after  is now more than likely in their late teens or early twenties it shows you how much of a miserable failure their changes have actually been.  The vets would have stuck if they had not been alienated so badly by Julio Torres and Smedley and the idiotic changes that they pushed on the fan base but the teens they were after and catered to with cu and nge are now long gone and have probably already finished highschool. Food for thought hmm?

It's time to either put this miserable game out of it's misery.. pull the plug.

    OR

Give the consumer what they want. Classic Pre Cu servers.

It's great to know the game is being improved. And the news about in-game voice chat is great.

Perhaps SOE being absorbed into SCEA is a good move, like City of Heroes/Villains being entirely owned by NCSoft, which is now providing many improvements in the games.

Really! SOE has majorly screwed the pooch with this game. Time to put it down and let someone else take a crack at making a good SW game.

I recently restarted the game after playing pre-cu/NGE and all that.

Despite all the "hate" on the forums (everywhere) for Sony etc for what they did to this game I have to be honest and say that I am quite enjoying it!

I'm enjoying it too! Actually, it was the veterans here at MMORPG.com's SWG Vet. Refuge that made me want to try the game. The thing about changing completely your beloved game into something so different is a killer, but the fact that they kept talking about it even after years and the game was still on, made me curious. I'm having a blast, but the game has some serious issues, like bugs, broken systems, no smuggling for the Smuggler, crafting restricted to one class, and the grind and linearity of the Legacy quest. That's why I hope SCEA do make some changes to the game in order to remove that feel of abandonment from it - I don't mean population, I mean fixing long existing the bugs and broken systems.

I played from launch til a few months after CU, for someone that played pre-cu I cant imagine what they would enjoy about the game and for people after CU they don't know how much more fun and promising the game was before. The crafting was much better and had several diverse crafting profs. The combat was more fun imo. And now people can start as jedi?? Gawd must be a jedi on every account now. IMO Jedi should never have been a playable prof. Theres no way to make it viable... old way ... hard core gamers can get it and screw the casual players.. new way give everyone a jedi! heh both ways suck. They need to just let the game DIE alrdy. Pathetic they still trying to milk the SW fanbase and kinda sad to see people paying for it.

Pathetic and sad - two words I'd use to describe the people who can't let it go already.

Not quite sure if you posted that referring to me, but if so, I have been over this game since I quit, the only thing I miss is a good sci fi mmorpg.

Same here. Waiting for Fallen Earth.

I just have to laugh about how the handling of SWG (among other things) has ruined $OE's reputation. Heck, I know people that won't buy anything Sony from here on in....

I hadnt heard of fallen earth before, seems like everyone has been talking about tabula rasa, but I just watched the vid about FE and it def sounds promising, I'll have to keep my eye on that one. Thx for the tip.
