Why can't more than 1 account on the same server be made?

 My brother and I are just starting Starport because a friend of mine told me to play. Well, I created my account first and played. Now, my brother wants to play on the same server so we could be in the company with our friends. We all play on the Milky Way server and my friends have accounts, it's jsut that my bro needs an account on the server and we only have one comp. Is there anything I can do?

    No. Sorry to tell you that there is nothing to do but buy another computer. This is to prevent the same person from having multiple accounts on the same server. Imagine if everyone could have more than 1 account. There would be so many accounts and people playing on only one of them it would just be an enormous waste of memory and data that could be put into something else. Imagine looking at the top 10 players in a galaxy, only to realize that the numbers 1-10 players are all someone like Gattica. Having a brother and 1 computer also I share your anger and frustration but there is nothing you can do and i'm glad its' this way. I think i'm just going to buy another computer image.

    I believe so, if you have two hard-drives have starport installed on two, then you guys can have the "Starport" game to yourself from each hard-drive, or you could "Partittition" your hard-drive [ask some techy about this] and then do the install twice on the different parts of the drive.

    Then you'd be set. ::::23::

    Thanks for the help guys. I'll think about partitioning. I thought it would be that way because of multiple accounts and stuff. Thanks all for the help :).

    I find that going to a cybercafe and createing the 2nd account works as well, you can still play it once it's created from the origonal computer. In fact you can log out then back in quickly between the 2 accounts on the same instance.

    I am just curious here...What do they do to prevent multiple accounts? Grab the windows SSID? Mac address? If I still played I might take a shot at getting around it, but I don't:)

    They grab the IP. The reason it's done is because you're not intended to be able to play multiple accounts from the same place because it's an unfair advantage and it can unbalance the game as many people are not able to play multiple accounts with only 1 IP per home. I would also assume, for those that know anything about business, that people who use multiple accounts (this is rampant in the game and should be policed more closely) are MUCH less likely to pay for admiral tokens which seems to be the only monitary support Play Techtonics gets from the game considering it's free to download and all servers are free.

    im sure they take another bit of info because i have a friend who created his account on my other computer, same IP, just networked... we can both be on the same server at the same time from one IP address. image

    Installing to another partition and making account from there doesn't work. I don't think it takes IP, though, because I'm on a dynamic IP, and my IP is different, still can't make account on same server as my bro.

    i have two hard drives in my computer, dual boot (XP and 98SE) and i have been able to make another account under 98, seperate from my usual one under XP... I only did it as a test but since you cant use both simultaneously, that shouldnt be a problem.

    I've actually gone through this with detail. If you'll look in ur SG folder, you'll see data files. You'll have a new data file created, with the name of ur account and the server you played in, when u enter a server. Plus if you look at the server.lst file, it contains a list of servers with numbers beside them. In the server's you played in, there'll be a number beside it, if u haven't played in it, they'll be a 0 . I believe I'm pretty close to figuring it out, now all I need to do is figure out the data file's way of saving info, since some are bigger than others.
