I just can't get excited about this game because of their lack of a US Publisher...this has been going on now for a liitle over a year and a half. Why no publisher? Something is wrong.

Maybe potential publishers feel that the game just doesn't warrant the type of help they are looking for, or they feel it won't sell that well in the US? Maybe it isn't near ready for launch so there would be no point in trying to get a publisher so soon.
It could have to do with the fact that two huge names are coming out soon and combined with Blizzard's WoW, publishers just don't see an indie type game doing well at this time. It really is a shame, as Spellborn does look like a good game, but I doubt it will garner any attention with the big boys coming out about the same time.
Perfect example of wrong time, wrong place.
The game is being released with or with out a us publisher. They already have one in Asia and its looking very good indeed. You will have to buy the eu version if you want to play the game at release.

I think publishers do more than just sell packaging...
I think it has to do with the Spellborn developers wanting to have more control over the game than US publishers want to give.
I am not worried, but I am also planning to buy the Euro version.
From games that are coming out, it seems publishers are pushing devs in effort to get the money as fast as possible. Tcos developers don't want to give up the control.
But imo all that is needed is a small company that can keep the Us servers up and running and a digital download/purchase and they can get around us publisher completely.
Edit: Also, servers and clients won't be locked for regions, so you can play on european servers without problems.
I hope they find a publisher soon. It would be disappointing for this game not be offered in the US
either they find a US publisher soon
Or you are allowed to buy the european version and play on the World-servers placed in europe
((SOE has all its world servers..even dedicated euro servers, placed in the US))
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
I do not think there is anything to worry about yet. The game will come out in Europe and teh NDA will lift. Then there will be real stories of what gameplay is really like. Most importantly if it swims it will get US support. Especially if it really does well. If it sinks in Europe then it wont make it anywhere. In theory, if it does well there could be several publishers bidding up the rights. I too may very well play as soon as they open up European servers. I think it will be well worth the minor investment as I am really interested in what I am reading so far.
Even if their is no US publisher can you still somehow get this game in the US ?
I'm not expecting AoC to go over very well, and Warhammer is delayed. TCoS looks good so are we out in the cold for now ?
From what I see, many people are going to try to get a copy of the game once it hits shelves in the EU. Sounds like you won't be stopped from playing from the US on a EU server. This may just keep me out of AoC depending upon its Euro release. There is still no set date to dangle in front of us for an American release....only to be pushed back, lol. And no publisher too.
Someday this will take off. I just hope it succeeds and is half the fun as it looks.
Without a US publisher... I really wonder how this game will do.
I'd like for the game to do well. But the closer they get to launch without a US pub... and the longer they wait after launch to get a US pub... the more it will hurt the game.
Perhaps they are waiting for their initial $$$$$ to come in from EU sales before working with a US pub?
With the US $dollar$ in the shape that it is, they will probably do well with the exchange rate during negotiations. lol
Last November TCoS got a big publishing deal in Japan, "...the license deal is one of the largest closings for a single product for the territory of Japan in the history of PC games."
It is extremely unlikely they could have made that deal for a poor-quality game, since it included a substantial cash advance.
Several major US publishers already have their own MMO's in release or development. The competition this year and beyond is going to be intense.
I dont think there is anything wrong, infact I think something is right,I believe the devs dont want to give the publisher too much power or say in this title,Maybe(and these are my thoughts)some publishers have approached and wanted to publish this title but maybe wanted some control on its release date or maybe even contant,The devs here have always said they will release when ready and also,They want to release the game they forseen when they started this project.
I wouldnt worry too much,When(yes I did say when and not if)this game releases and it is a great game, you will see the publishers cueing to market it in the USA.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

I would GUESS that TCoS is using EU as kind of half beta and make money in the process. I think, but I'm not sure but most devs are EU anyway, but their just taking a smarter appraoch than most. Look at it this way, when it becomes well pollished they can say " Millions of copies sold in EU and now coming to America" that way EVERYONE will purchase it if the timing is right between releases of other MMO's. They will have time on their side to wait. Smart, very smart.
I would also GUESS that they will leak copies to the US anyway, just without the marketing at first.
I hope !!
As long as it's not just another grindfest OR fps-knock off... it will have a shot.
Making sure this doesn't roll out as a SOE game will help, too.
When is the official launch date again?
Half Beta?
Never. That stuff is ruining games. Look at Vanguard. And about Leak copys? Devs stated alot of times that there wont be a region block, and if they dont have a US publisher, you need to ship a copy of the game.
But game isnt released yet, so there might still be a publisher before it. And funny part is, with the demand of beeing in control ( yes thats a demand of SIL) even a publisher as SOE cant mess this up.
Edit: Someone else reply at the same time as me. Well I see the grudge alot of people have against SOE, but they only have too keep servers up and sell some boxes. No patch control that ruines games.
Release date is set for Q2
If you look at the game closer, you will see it isnt a knock off.
What you said about SOE is true but recently they completley messed up POTBS advertisement in certain countries, although that alone would not of mattered since the game is crap, but it does still look bad for SOE. I actually think NC soft would be perfect publisher for this game, they allways seem to go for innovative titles and as far as I know they have a good reputation as a publisher. Not sure though since I have only played Guild wars from them, which I did not enjoy.
On the topic at hand, I believe that having a US publisher is not a be all end all case. If they release in the current countries they have publishers for then they will get the subscribers they need to sustain the game, all the problems with launching will be experienced and hopefully solved by the time that it releases in the US.
That will most likely mean a smoother release. I believe WoW only has 2.2 million players in the US according to their press release, the rest are from Asia, EU, etc so it should not kill the game to release here and then to the US later. It has worked the other around for the majority of games, so theres no reason to think not having a US publisher is a sign of certain doom ;p

Hello Community members !
Today, we would like to share an important update with you about The Chronicles of Spellborn.
After we attended the GDC in San Francisco, TCoS and Frogster have been in contact with different parties regarding the distribution of Spellborn in the USA.
Recently, one major MMOG publisher has signed a letter of intent as a potential partner for the release of The Chronicles of Spellborn in the USA, assuming a time of six months so that Spellborn can be successfully introduced to the US public.
Frogster and we, TCoS Devs, decided to use this extra time to improve our server architecture as well as apply further polish and balancing.
Thanks to this additional development time, we will make sure that the flow of the gameplay and the performance correspond to the high quality expectations for the game even with high numbers of players.
The launch of Spellborn is now estimated to take place in Autumn 2008, simultaneously in Europe and in the USA.
Our current Beta planning remains the same, and our tester pool has been increased by one hundred community members recently, ramping up towards bigger numbers as more testing needs arise.
To conclude, we will make sure to reveal the USA partner as soon as a final deal is signed, but in the meantime, keep on being active and helpful to the community, for it’s your best chance to participate in the Beta test and make Spellborn an even better game!
For the Oracle !
Awesome, Awesome News.
Awesome? New Delay it's crap.
From reading that it sounded like they planned to release an unfinished game if they did not have a US publisher, which is worrying.
Well at least the good news is we wont get constant is there a US publisher posts now lol
Eeeh..? They probaly would have postponed the game. They said in their last update that they should say more in April about the release. And well.. Postpone.
It has nothing really to do with the US publisher. Well.. maybe it has. They problay got some cash from them, so they have funds for another half year.
/Cheer Bless the Oracle
Not an unfinished game, but a game without the content that would have been included lateron. Although, in a way, an mmorpg is never finished, but that never worried anyone yet.
