Please don't bite my head off if this has been discussed already. But I was wondering: for the upcoming PvP weekend will we have to download the whole Client like the CB testers are currently using? Or a different one since it's only a small part of the game that can be accessed during the event?
And when Open Beta starts in May? Will we be able to use the one we're gonna have to download next week? Or do we need to download another one?
I know it's gonna be all speculation, but I'm hoping someone will know. It's just that my maximum download speed is 200 kb/s. Downloading a 11GB Client would take me 16 hours xD So not having to download different Clients would save me quite a lot of time.

All depends on if there's some way to change server (ports etc.) where the client connects to. But seeing previous games like DAoC, WoW, etc. it might be possible but only if you download it all through some client that you download. Cause if it's like some huge download from a website there's not much you can do.
I would guess that the Gamespot PVP test will have it's own limited version of the client: we will get the engine, the character models and sounds, perhaps even full character creation module, but I strongly doubt that anything but the multiplayer arenas and their graphics will be there. There is a ton of data that is not needed for 'multiplayer stress test' things like npcs, environments (both graphics and sounds). The Gamespot article also mentioned multiplayer lobby, so it doesn't sound like we will be able to walk freely inside a city and talk to battle masters ourselves.
Besides I believe that Funcom promised to invite 15000 people and all of them will need to download the client, so it only makes sense that they would want to minimize it's size as much as possible, especially if you take into consideration that the test will be up for 2 days only and that means a TON of people attempting to download the client at once.
If I had to venture a guess I would say that the Gamespot PVP test client will be 5Gb at the very most, around 2Gb most likely.
As for full retail client 15Gb sounds about right, as mentioned above things like sounds, textures and models can all be pretty big.
The difference between complete game and open beta client should not be all this big, so it is possible that you will be able to just patch it rather then having to download everything again.
I'm told AOC client is roughly 35 to 40gigs. I'd suggest you upgrade your connection if your still in the stone age and have less than a 3mb connection.

Optimization is still going on. It is more likely to be around 1/4 what you was told for release.
The 3day head start client is said to be around 10-15g. at least according to the game store i asked it about.
Who knows.. Its gonna take ages for it to download.. :P
and enjoy paying for the joy of the early start download ($5 for the option to download the headstart according to amazon......yeah, screw that)
People need to remember how to do a disk frag too.
The servers will be open a few days before the early in option some places offer, so people can download in time.
Timetable for this has already been said on interview on Norweigen TV from the game director.
5 bucks aint that much. specially since it has 10 extra days too.
Approx 15gig. Bout the same as Vangaurd.
