While there are some exceptions to this, the current sense I get is that most people are bored with the current crop of free-to-play MMORPGs and what they have to offer, their gameplay mechanics etc. But it also seems like everyone is waiting for the next wave of free-to-play games to come out, like Mythos and Ragnarok 2.
From what I've been able to tell, it looks like this next wave of games may have learned from the mistakes of the free-to-play past and are trying to offer something new both with graphics and gamestyle. Thoughts?

Dunno about the f2p crowd, but us p2pers are definately playing the waiting game 'til AoC, WAR, TCoS and Aion come out.
Yea that is not just limited to f2p I would love for a game to come out that I would feel is worth paying for.. because currently I am disappointed.
Yep as the other poster said,Us p2p gamers dont have it any easier,we just keep waiting with a forced smile,"is that a rainbow I see"...."hmm maybe just another storm"
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

I completely understand that the pay-to-play crowd is in a similar situation. Personally, I'm waiting for WAR, and I'm intrigued by the still-distant Warhammer 40k and Firefly MMORPGs.
But, I also enjoy free-to-play games when they're done well, and I was just pointing out that to me, it seems like a lot of the free-to-play games right now are just cookie cutter games in one way or another, and most, not all but most, lack any real depth.
It also seems, however, that the next generation of free-to-play games are trying to bring something new to the table, especially as the west gets more comfortable with the free-to-play business model and starts coming out with some titles themselves.
I wouldn't get too excited about up and coming F2P games. There free for a reason, that being cheap to produce, fast to produce and require as little effort as possible for maximum profit.
More content and depth that you crave will never come from a F2P MMO because that requires talent, investment and alot of time, all these things destroy the F2P business model, and as such will never happen.
If you want depth and content, real content, you will have to jump on one off the big upcoming P2P or you'll be waiting along time (i.e. forever).

This thread is not a free-to-play vs. pay-to-play debate. I know that's a popular debate, but it's off-topic to have that debate here.
This thread isn't for those that don't like free-to-play games. To each their own. I personally like both kinds. This thread was intended for those that actually like the free-to-play games and are looking forward to the new ones coming out.
In some cases it's true that some of the free-to-play games are pretty simple. In others it's not. Perfect World has depth, and it's obvious a lot of time and effort has gone into it. Mythos looks very nicely polished and high-quality. From what I've seen of Ragnarok 2, it also looks like it's going in a deeper, higher-quality direction.
If you want to debate the merits of free-to-play vs. pay-to-play, go start your own thread.
I agree, the most recent MMORPGs have been underwhelming. Certainly nothing to draw people away from WoW.
thats not to say that the games like PoTBS, LOTRO, and heck, even TR dont have some good points. Of those three I wager LOTRO has the potential to become a very solid game after a few expansions and updates.
However, players are burnt out on WoW...they want to try another game....but they dont want to sacrifice gameplay and quality that WoW has (WoW Haters, please try not to gag). Fact is, until a game is released that has a WoW Calibre gameplay experience....we will continue to be underwhelmed.

lol is someone complaining about free to play stuff???
I tried the mythos beta, and it's quite fun for a f2p game.
Are you insinuating that I'm complaining about free-to-play games, or making a joke about how many people tend to speak negatively about the current free-to-play market?
