In my opinion the game cannot be beat. UT and Quake-like games go to fast for me to feel like I've accomplished anything at the end. Kill whoring is cool and all, which is also a part of Planetside, but unlike PS, at the end of the day that's all you have to show for your efforts, a K/D ratio. You can't open up the map and look at the universe to see what bases/continents you've helped take over, or tried your hardest to defend.
In Planetside, you're part of an army in an ever changing environment. Vehicles siege bases, engineers set up turrets and traps, grunts take towers and objectives, pilots block out the sun and rain death upon those below. There's so many ways to kill or be killed.
You have battle ranks which open up new certifications and implants for you, and command ranks that give you access to command tools like way points for your platoon, battle plans, EMP charges, revealing enemies on the map, and even mini-nuke like explosions commonly referred to as OSes.
Simply put, the game requires a lot more thought and planning both on the character and battlefield level than other FPSs, and a hell of a lot more action than typical RPGs. That's something I personally enjoy, especially after first falling in love with the Starsiege: Tribes and Tribes 2 games.
It really doesn't matter what faction you choose to play for. However, sometimes specific empires get the bulk of the population and make the other 2 hard pressed to progress on a continent.
Just consider what you would like best:
New Conglomerate: Hits hard, and hits slow. Has the Jackhammer Shotgun. (Which many claim is overpowered at short range... obviously.)
Terran Republic: Hits not-so-hard, and hits fast. Has the Mini-Chaingun. (It's a friggin' hand held chaingun!)
Vanu Sovereignty: Lasers, flashy things, purple outfits. Has the Lasher. (Crazy energy ball shooting rifle that hits things the round goes near and is godly for defending doors/hallways. Oh, it's purple too.)
So there you have it. My take on the game and my very very basic rundown of the 3 empires you can choose from. Just pick whatever you think you'd like most. Or hell, try em all when you first start. Just go to the Virtual Shooting Range and Virtual Vehicle place, on different characters, to try the empire specific weapons/vehicles to see what you like.
Hope I answered some questions for ya. Good luck.
Planetside isn't like most FPSs. Its not a game that you can just jump right into and kick ass (I played TF2 for the first time and was at the top of the pack because I know how to play FPSs, but in PS, that doesn't help much). There's so much strategy in it that you have to plan out so far in advance. But once you get the hang of it, then there's nothing better. Don't play the game for a day or even a week and decide it sucks. It'll take you a month to get a character to BR18 (when you get your third and final implant) and then you can have a well-rounded character instead of the specialized character that you'll have to start out with.
And for goodness sakes, don't be like some noobs who come into PS thinking that because its an FPS that they can just go it alone and pown all the guys that come near them. It is an MMO, which means that you should play it like any other MMO, with TeamSpeak or Vent.
gracias to you both for giveing me info. so far i like the sound of the people with lasers and flashey stuff lol.
