Currently I am running Windows XP (Media Edition I think)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2.2GHz Socket AM2 89W Dual-Core Processor

MSI K9N SLI Platinum AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard

EVGA 256-P2-N550 -T2 GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card  - 2 of these running in SLI

G.SKILL 4GB (4 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

Do you think I would see a good upgrade by moving to Vista and a DX10 card like the 9600GT?

Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

Vista is being replaced in a year or so with Windows 7 so moving to vista while there are few if any DX10 only games seems wasteful really.

Hardware wise tho i thing you are pretty fine tho if you want to upgrade get a new graphics card then buy Crisis and patch it to enjoy some lovely graphics.

Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981

DX10 effects cripple your performance, but I'd say just by upgrading to a 9600GT without vista you would see a significant improvement.

Your good on RAM on your processor is fine for now, a video card will yield you the most improvement.

    EDIT:

What you could do is go ahead and buy a 9600GT and Vista and see how it works out. Make sure to buy the EVGA 9600GT though, so if you are unhappy with the performance you can use the EVGA step-up program within 90 days of your purchase and get a stronger graphics card.
