I found on another post about haveing a guild tax, but no one knew much about it.

If so, I think it's a good idea as long as it's not variable, if so then :
1) This will give harversters and crafters a big advantage. I could even understand that to a point, however I have a friend that I thought how to play WoW thinking I would have someone to play with. Well guess what, he only likes crafting and money.
2) Invites gold farmers, if you would like to get into better guilds.
3) Could screw over casual players.
4) Higher level players always have more money, how will level 20 players afford guilds made of level 50 players.
So good idea in fact great !!! As long as it's a fixed rate for all guilds.

Without knowing anything about it in particular. I would say its more than likely just a way for the guild master to raise funds over time so the guild can use it for things it needs. I dont think it would be a tax a guild has to maintain in order to be a guild ....but who knows.
it could be XP tax to increase guild level. like in Ragnarok Online. but im just poking the hey stack
I did a search on the AOC forums. It sounds as If ....i ts just funds to be used on what the guild needs like I thought. The % of tax should be adjustable by the GM , so he can set it at what is affordable for his type of guild. This would be great for GM's who do have a guild tax , so they don t have to try and collect It from every tom , dck, and harry in there guild when thye see them online.
I believe that I read a few things on this a little while ago, so I'm not sure how accurate it is, nor do I remember where I read it. The guild tax is just an option, a guild leader can use it or not use it. Don't think of it as a way to siphon money from the rest of the guild for the GM's own personal gain. AoC's guild system will need a lot of money and resources in order to create, maintain, and progress further through the game with their own city and, if they chose, their own battlekeep. I highly doubt that a responsible (or even intelligent) GM would raise the taxes so high that you had to grind for several days at high levels in order to pay the bills. If a guild is already at the point where it's only accepting max level players and doing high-end raiding, pve or pvp.. then they wouldn't need that money nearly as bad as a guild that is up and coming, still buying and building their cities and keeps. At that point, their costs would simply be consumables, and in any guild I've ever been in, you are typically supposed to provide your own unless of extreme circumstances. Like in WoW, elixir of titans often cost 35-40G, that is something that could be deemed too expensive for an individual and the guild will provide for them.
In response to some of your bullet points above. You're right, guild crafters will benefit greatly. I'd imagine a guild with every profession GM'd with the help of the guild tax would be highly beneficial. I'd personally have the crafters make gear for free, as long as it didn't involved a hard-to-get item. Unless of course, the player provided said item. If you think about it, casual players will always be screwed as far as progression goes compared to hardcore players. A casual player will never last in a hardcore guild. Also, the tax isn't going to be so high that you have to play 20 hours a week to pay it. Think WoW, 1 gold, maybe even less. It could be deducted from the bank. If you have 100 people in your guild, that's 100 gold for the week. So, a very little sacrifice for the individual, but a huge gain for the guild as a whole.
The tax isn't going to be a pre-req for being in a guild. If it is, then only the most hardcore and established guilds will even attempt such a ridiculous thing. Like I said, at that point, that guild is just doing it to equip all of their players with high-end gear and hand out free consumables along with huge siege funds.
Good points DAS, thanks !
