The folks at Tales of Pirates have announced that the game will be receiving a content expansion and a new server called Dawn Sea.

Tales of Pirates will be releasing a new update patch at the end of April. And with an increasing number of TOP players, a new server called Dawn Sea will be released soon as well.

The new update patch includes:

  1. The New server Dawn Sea is available in Mystic Oceans
  2. A prison system has been released to combat bots. Cheaters may be sentenced to “life imprisonment”
  3. The first part of the “Golden Twelve Palace” event, Aries is available.
  4. New Apparel is available.
  5. The starting point of Hexathlon has been changed.
  6. Updated Black-market system is available.
  7. New items for obtaining extra EXP are released.
  8. The events for Valentine’s Day and Dragon Boat Festival were cancelled.
  9. Added the Fairy Box to the newbie box.
  10. A few bugs in some quests have been fixed.

    Looks interesting,

Going a bit off topic here but how is this game? is it similar to ragnarok and does it fully fulfil the "pirate" gimic.

I can't compare TOP with Ragnarok as I've never played Ragnarok.

As for the pirate theme - no, not really; it doesn't live up to the theme. I love the game though and have been playing for almost a year now. There's a loose pirate theme that runs throughout the game but don't expect to do much at sea as most of the game is geared up for characters on land.

Recent updates have made the game less about earning your right to status as being able to buy your status (hardly new for MMORPGs as they seek to expand their treasure chests with our gold). That said, from a commercial point of view, I can't complain - the game is free after all. And it's perfectly possible to do well without spending a penny (but don't expect to do it quickly).

Sign up - you know you want to.

The game graphics are perfect: a cartoon style helps make the game look fresh and the 3D gamplay allows you to adjust camera views to suit most users.

The gameplay itself operates on many levels. You can grind out levels by killing monsters and follow NPC quests to gain experience and in game cash. These quests operate as a loose story and as a tutorial so are the best way of learning the basics.

Once you've got the hang of things, there are 'mazes' to compete with other players in. These are level specific to make sure you don't always get owned by experienced players (or to embarrass yourself in by losing out to a newbie).

Regular events mean that even if you're getting bored of the general gameplay, there's always something new to prepare for. These vary from solo activities (for example, getting from A to B in the quickest time) to whole server activities (such as, which server can kill a group of monsters in the quickest time).

As your experience with the game grows, you can also explore money making activities such as sea trading, item gathering to sell to others, or manufacturing items for sale to other players.

Recent expansions have also made it possible to be born again. Once your character has been there and done it all, you get to complete fiendishly difficult quests to be reborn and start your character over but with bonus skills and more effective stat boosts.

There are four characters to choose from and six different career paths so you should find something that you like or something new to try out (although it's not possible for your character to change career once you've followed a particular path, many people make multiple characters so that you can enjoy the game from different perspectives).

Most players are friendly and helpful and recent updates have rewarded this helpful attitude. Unfortunately, as with real life, there are always people looking to take advantage of you but if you act with caution, you shouldn't have many problems.

They're all the virtues I can extol off the top of my head but I'm sure different players have different ideas about what makes this one of the easiest ways to 'waste' a few hours a day.

Was that enough to make you join us?
