Flight Model?

KorgakKorgak Member Posts: 20

Hi there,

Ive never played the original JG and I was wondering what sort of flight model was used, and might be used for JGE.

Was it like Wing Commander / Freespace modeled on fighter aircraft?  Or involve realistic physics like Frontier: Elite II?

Thanks.

Well JGC used semi neutonian physics. If you used thrust to go forward you continued n that direction but slowed down gradually . This of course ment you could turn your ship to face backwards and fire while still travelling in the origional direction . Depending on the weight of your ship or cargo this affected the slow down and indeed the acceleration.

The new game uses the same physics but has the option to use thrusters to give you a bit more control over your turns. You can turn them off but I didnt notice a lot of difference when i played the alpha.

    As poster above me said

Jumpgate classic uses same flight model as Elite and Frontier. Your ship continues moving even when you turn off the acceleration. So you need to turn it other way and use counter acceleration to stop.

It requires lot of skill , and is very fun ...

But it is also not to newbie friendly.

That is why JGE ships will be equiped with movement dumpeners that slow down the movement and bring ship to stop without need of special manouvers.
