I played phantasy star online back on the dreamcast and then when it came out on the xbox also.. and i thought that both were great games.. does this game live up to its past. and is it worth the $10 a month to play it?

That's a good question. I had a friend that played it alot when it first came out but he quit because it got repetitive or something like that. I really enjoyed PSO for Dreamcast and PC though...
In my opinion PSU does not live up to PSO. They improved many things from PSO, but in the process also managed to ruin a lot of the elements that made PSO so addictive. It's really too bad, I had ben waiting for a sequal to PSO for sooo long.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
The original PSU didn't stand up to PSO which has years of content. But PSU is coming out with an expansion pack next month that should resolve a lot of the problems the original PSU has.
But then again, if you were waiting for the expansion pack to play it, it'd get the original PSU now. This is because there's going to be an event on the 19th that will give players access to a lot of rare items and easy exp that they can use to have a headstart when the expansion hits.
Also the first 30days of Phantasy Star Universe is free, so if you don't like it, you can always cancel before then.
IS THIS GAME WORTH IT? ALL MY FRIENDS LOVE IT

Worth it, as in, will you enjoy playing the game? I would most definitely say "Yes" d(^_^)b.
The problem is though, for "how long"? Phantasy Star Universe is unique in that there's no real incentive to do anything.
Level requirements don't lock out content for players, only restricts the amount of rewards a player gets for a mission. There's no forced partying system, or even a penalty for high levels being in a low level party. You don't even have to party, there are players that have soloed all the way to lv. 60 in this game. There's no incentive to hunt for all the best gear, this game is very much not gear dependent. If you do want uber gear, but aren't willing to hunt for it, you can wait 'til a online event appears that offers great stuff for participating.
A game with no incentives has it's downsize as there's no addictive quality that we all love about MMOs that keeps us playing for hours and hours even when we don't want to. Playing PSU for longer than 3-4hrs tends to get dull.
He hit the nail right on the head there. I played for the free 30 days but couldn't bring myself to pay the monthly fee to continue.
Do you know for certain?
I bought PSU yesterday simply because I was able to get it pretty cheap compared to what I saw online. IMO basing this off of PSO from dreamcast days I do not think that PSU nor PSO are worth the monthly fees. The content added and the patching does not justify the fee. I mean why do we have to wait for an expansion/Updated version, for the game to be fixed(made more enjoyable, bugs, etc...) when we are paying Sega a maintance fee to upkeep these things?
Look at other MMORPGs I mean normally nowadays you spend 15 dollars a month and it includes updated content (WoW/LOTRO adds new content, area, and raid experiences) on a pretty normal basis without having to buy an expansion.
So to the point I will be playing PSU single player and will enjoy the heck out of it as I did PSO, BUT will not be playing online until there are other ahrm alternative measures. My 10 bucks is better spent on LOTRO.
Apham is correct.
There is no way this game is worth a monthly fee. If it was Free2Play then most certainly. However for a monthly fee Sega are doing f***-all with your cash. Excuse my language in being blunt, but it is true.
The servers are shoddy, and therefore other players appear to lag around. And the content they release in patches is simply already in the game and is "unlocked" as such via a patch. For example the patches that will come out in the future will be releasing more content already in the expansion files you've paid for!!
If your idea of a monthly fee game is doing the same missions over and over from Level 1 along with a lack of content in general then go ahead, but playing many MMO's for me the game certainly cannot justify a fee. If PSU is your first MMO then it may be different.
Every one has his or her own taste. And every one will have a different idea towards the same thing!
My choice is that it is worth playing,
It is one of the favorite games that my friends and I like.
I played it, I enjoyed it, but I slowly lost my well to keep going as every friend I made kept quiting. So I too moved on sadly.
Now in search of something just as good.
This game fails.
