The Intel E8400 Wolfdale 3.0 Selling over 8,400 units per hour on Newegg.. They can't keep it stocke

I just got mine very early this morning when it was in stock, but I also talked to a customer service rep for Newegg.com about another transaction when she told me they typically receive between 10,000 to 16,000 of these twice a week and are sold out in a matter of a couple of hours. She said the selling pace on their website for these CPU chips is over 8,400 per hour when they have them in stock.

..That's INSANE.

Okay, I understand that they are a hot item with the PC builders. But for one PC chip to sell at that rate is almost unbelievable.

Is this E8400 Wolfdale CPU really that great of a value at $209??

I've noticed myself that the chip will be in stock about twice a week and is usually sold out the next time I check.. and I've been watching it for weeks now.

But come on... 8,400 per hour?? For one CPU on only one website?

Makes one wonder how much money Newegg.com is making, heh. They must be making some serious dough. Again that's one chip. Imagine the other 92 million parts and items they sell on that site. Sheesh.

But really, is this CPU really all it's cracked up to be? Is the 95% "five-star" reviews on Newegg.com overhype?

I remember a couple of years back when I bought my AMD Dual Core 4200+ for $335 off Newegg.com, heh... At that time I had heard a report that AMD sold like 98% of all CPUs in the world and had a firm grip on the CPU market (basically destroying Intel)... It seems impressive to me that Intel has made that drastic of a comeback against AMD in such a short time frame.

Comments? Just curious what you guys think of this particular chip and the whole Intel vs AMD battle. Who's winning now and why? Will either one ever actually drive the other company into bankruptcy? Isn't it actually a great thing that Intel came back from that serious ass kicking they wee obviously getting from AMD a couple years ago because when there is such fierce competition, aren't we as customers the real winners?

I've been noticing some severely slow page loading times while lurking around newegg? So this was the issue?

Talk about IRONY.  The E8400 selling not 8000 per hour.  Not 8,500 per hour.  But 8,400 per hour on one of the biggest PC part seller websites huh?  I wonder if the new Nivdia 9800 Video card sells over 9,800 per hour on the same website too??

LOL.  Not buying it.  I know that is a very popular CPU these days and a truly outstanding value at that price, but I'm going to say either you or that cust service person you spoke with is full of some major cow dung!

Lol @ the comment that AMD had 98% share in the CPU market.

The CPU is nice.  Can't keep it in stock?  That doesn't mean that the unit sells all that much, honestly.  It could be thtat they simply don't stock that many OR that they are trying to shift other products out the door.

As for selling 8400 units per hour... yeah, 'IRONY', indeed.  I doubt that number is accurate.  OR, they sold that number in 1 hour and then rounded either the timeframe and/or the quantity sold.

Hmm, I didn't even see the irony in those figures. So knowing that was what I heard, I called back and asked to speak to a supervisor. The Supervisors name was "Bob" and he said he didn't know the overall figures at an hourly rate for that CPU chip. However, he put me on hold and came back to the phone to tell me that they DID get in 61,400 E8400 Wolfdale PCu chips yesterday at about 7pm and they sold out at approx 8:30am this morning. He went on to tell me that they continue to order more and more of these and are trying to keep them in stock due to the number of phone calls and complaints they are getting about them being out of stock on them but they can only get them from their supplier at a limited speed of production etc.

About the 98% AMD market over Intel a few years back, that IS obviously a flawed statistic.. but I DO remember hearing that on the Kim Komando tech show that AMD had "90-something" percent of a certain area of the market.. might have been just the PC builder market the previous year or something... sorry can't remember exactly now. Whatever it was, the stat blew my mind and I had no idea AMD was beating Intel so bad in whatever facet the stat was pulled from. I know I heard it in 2006 when I built my first computer, and think it was for the year prior, so they were probably talking about 2005.

Sorry for any misinformation as that is definitely not my intent.

I am simply amazed at how fast some of these PC parts sell is all.

Dominance breeds laziness.  However, I think the bigger issue was Intels viral development campaign that they are still in litigation on.

Congrats on getting one and for only $209. I got mine in the first release and it was $250 but I even saw some going for as high as $350 on a few site. I would say yes, at $209 or even$250 the e8400 is an incredible value. it outpaces the e6850 in every aspect and the e6850 goes for about $270. I think what everyone is so excited about is the overclocking potentially, some people are getting as high as 4.4Ghz on the stock fan.

I knew they were popular but newegg alone is selling over 8k an hour!?! that's insane! 8400 an hour no less lol. it seams somebody at either newegg or intel has a sense of humor. I wouldn't hold my breathe on the later though.
