You all do realize that with a Lvl 13 cap, all you are going to be playing is the Single-Player newb area?
Yes, I know Funcom has stated that there will now be "Limited Multiplayer" in the first 20 levels (no specification as to when that starts), but can you really believe them now?
But really, these guys are going into 'Open Beta" less then three weeks from release? And limiting it to the No-Multiplayer newb area?
Phooey.
Don't be surprised when you end up with another AO type release.

How is having an 'Open Beta" that does not include MULTI-PLAYER equate to PVP?
How can you Beta a MMORPG without having Multi-Player play involved?
Multi-Player is not the same thing as PVP.
At least for most folks.
i was pointing to the fact that ppl were complaining about this weekend's pvp test and the fact they wouldnt be able to do some of the pve.

The single player Noob area for the first 20 levels is supposed to be optional...atleast thats what I thought..did they change that??

Be thankful they are having any sort of open beta at all. After AO's open beta and launch, I never thought we'd see the day where Funcom would have an open beta again.

That is true, but i do remember them saying you didnt need to stay there for a whole 20 levels..if you wish you can leave.

He really does make a good point. No matter what Funcom gives us there will still be plenty of people to complain. They could give us the full game in open beta and you would have people saying "what, no cookie??" If you are really worried about the game just wait. No one is forcing you to go out and buy the game come release day so whats the matter?

its not single player. you will play in an instanced single player area for the 1st 5 levels as you make your way toward the city. once you hit the city its multiplayer with the exception of the destiny quests which take place at night and are single player.

Either that, or they'd point out that they have AIDS, and as such, Funcom is out of touch with it's customer base and is doomed to fail because they only care about those "carebare" cancer patients.

LOL. You're not that far away from truth... Some of these posts are shoking. HOwever it's not different from any other game having such posts to read, and most of the time it's the same people bashing multiple games, they enjoy it...human nature I guess. /shrug

Simple. MMORPG does not equal to multiplayer. It equals persistent world that happens to have other people in it. Even if they are not anywhere near you, or in their own instances, etc, it is still an mmorpg. If you access an AH and buy something.. there you go, you just contributed to the mmorpg part of the game, even if you are soloing a single player instance or whatever. Or you just said hello on the general world channel. Oh dear.. mmorpg contribution.
Lots of people are confusing mmorpgs and cooperative multiplayer games
So as for the beta.. you are testing the client and game mechanics.. you could do that 100% offline and still contribute to the beta, if that was possible. If they want to massively test the multiplayer parts, they will do so when ready to do so, in the meantime it seems they want to massively test the client and game before getting to the heavy stuff.

People just like to complain about things, seriously its just human nature. Whenever im on these boards i tried to keep as openminded as possible, and I live by a few rules about AOC.
Will it have a good combat system? Yes
Will it be the best game Ever? No
Will There be breasts and will I enjoy it? Yes
Will I ever hit the level cap? Maybe but probably No

I am saying that there are people at both ends that are unbalanced. The kind that thinks everything is bad and the kind that thinks everything is good. Extremists. I've also noticed that a lot of people that often spend all their time criticizing the former are oftentimes part of the latter. And visa versa.
Rarely do I see a person that has had both good and bad things to say, when it was appropriate to do so. That is what I would describe as balanced.

who cares, really? You still need to buy a FP account to even have a CHANCE at getting in.
So basically they make you pay for open beta (distribution reasons are bullshit. the AO client is via torrent, and so is the PVP weekend client) , charge an insane amount for the CE, AND have a higher than norm sub fee.
I'm starting to get kind of turned off by the greed displayed here.

The topic of this thread is correct. It is not an "open beta." However, it is not an open beta for reasons other than the OP has said.
Its not an Open Beta because its not open and its not an open beta because the devs clearly state in thier announcement the purpose is to stress the servers. That makes it a stress test.
Since it is a Stress test, what level people are has no bearing on the sucess of the test. That said, it is very wise of them to limmit the levels so as to keep the game largely under wraps prior to its unvieling. Thats the best way to keep people's interest at a peak. I know you may not like to hear that, but its true.
