After years of wait for this little miracle , i decided.
I am not going to preorder , if i do not play open beta. And by open beta , i mean full open beta that lets you see aspects of game - crafting , questing , classes - not just pvp arena.
If Funcom does not make free open beta , but just payed one ...
I will wait for release and ...
I am not going to buy the game if I am not given the free trial.
....
In the mean time - when NDA bomb drops , I will be bombarded by negative posts - We all know it.
Especially when it will be announced than Keeps PVP , Spell weaving ...etc , is not implemented.
And I will be even less inclined to buy the game (without trying)...
So I will lose a good game - although I doubt that if the game was good they will not give free taste ?
And Funcom will lose one customer - although i think there is many like me...
This is what i decided.
Perhaps I will get to play bit later than you. Or not at all. But at least i will not be disapointed

Fair rational Lobo',
See you, when we see you, if we see you, I guess.
I agree the OB's level 13 cap reminds me of DDO's OB and how people thought it was a little to restrictive.
Although, I am staying with my pre-order. I don't think I'll be doing the OB. I've waited this long and I can wait a bit longer. The 3day headstart is where I'll begin.

* I do not need to know how to make a better game than you. I just need to know how to cancel my subscription. -Antarious(a slight misquote but the sentiment remains)
So what ? Welcome to the majority
This game will start to live and breathe 31 days after release when subscriptions are due.
i can understand limiting the number of people for "open beta", having multiple servers for open beta costs money, and my speculations were also that they would go with about 50k people for open beta cause thats a reasonable amount for testing with 1-2 servers.
But what i don't understand is that all the 50k people are coming from Fileplanet subscribers only. I don't think any other mmo did do a FP subscriber only open beta, nearly all of them did do a fp beta invite but most also did also add people from other channels (like their community, their own beta signup pages...) and also let in non subscribers from fp.
I won't subscribe to FP just for the chance to get in AoC Beta (there is no guarantee that you would be among the 50k anyway if you subscribe), and even with a guarantee i would probably not subscribe for one beta.
Still not completely sure if i will preorder, not sure if they will open NDA with that "open beta" since its very limited, if i don't get any real feedback before launch i probably won't preorder.
Unfortunately , there are only two ways to judge how good MMO is.
1. Try it for your self (at least 7 days)
2. Wait for the "Break Point" that happens exactly 1 month after the game launch
After all the "open" beta and early entry malarky, I will still keep my preorder, mainly because I managaed to get it for £15 due to the GAME.co.uk website having it on offer after Xmas to get pre-orders up.
If I was paying the full price then I probably would wait until July time to see how good it was.
I am not worried, this will be a good game. At least for a few months. There will be lag sometimes and some minor annoyances. But so far every game has that. Endgame is arguable... Its still my opinion that without decay there cant be a real endgame. It boils down to raid and siege. Although keeping up a keep or loosing a keep seems to be something like decay I never rush a game and so AoC will deliver a lot for 50 Euro for me
Theres been lots of reports that game is extremely buggy, therefore i am not preordering either.
Account has been stolen, why would someone want to steal my account?
It's a beta. If you have second thoughts just don't preorder. Wait it out and see what happens after a month that's fine. Why do you have to add in so much negativity. You guys are bordering on depressing. What I mean by that is that there is a sense of sadness, or that you were somehow cheated?
No game ever owes the user a free open beta, or a open beta at all for that matter. Open betas started to stress test, or do a pre release of the game and catch any bugs that might happen on the actual release. Now everyone thinks they deserve a free open beta as their right to try out the game. No other game besides MMO's give free open betas and the game industry still makes billions and billions of dollars. Players always wait until release, read reviews, and if they want to take a gamble they preorder. I think it's smart for some people who are on the fence to wait out the first month. My brother is one of them, but he is still excited about the game...
The reason i'm preordering, and I do preorder for many MMO's is because the first month is such an amazing experience to me. Whether it is riddled with bugs, or is an amazing launch that first month of an MMO just can't be replaced for me. At the end of the first month I will always give a fair review of the game for people like my brother.
Ill try to enter the Open Beta. I made a fileplanet sub to try to enter and have a taste before buying it. I dont mind about the 9$ i spent on it.
What reports? you need to back up your statement with a valid resource. Just FYI valid resources is not the reports that break the NDA, The ones who signed a non disclosure agreement and then go ahead and disclose information are not trustworthy whether they are telling the truth or not. They may tell the truth but again they have no valid resources for proof other than their personal opinion. One mans trash is anothers gold in that respect.

What reports would be valid to you? If they came from funcom? Yeah, funcom is going to tell their customers that their game is extremely buggy (if it really is).
On thread topic, I was going to use the open beta to determine the state of the game and make my decision to purchase based on that, but I've slowly realized that the open beta will be far too constrained to actually see the state of the game. Most of the game will still be hidden from view, and all the things I wanted to try will not be available to experience. Not to mention it will cost money. So it will be pretty useless in that regard, and probably a complete waste of time for me to download. I'll see how the pvp event goes, but obviously thats even more limited so I'm not holding my breath. I don't predict anything but holding out for release reviews at this point.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.

while the NDA is in Effect the only valid resource is yes Funcom/eidos IMO. Once the NDA is lifted then opinions are more valid as long as they are backed up by proof such as videos/screenshots, bug reports etc etc. Once released Proffesional reviews could be considered valid resources, while reviews are in essence just an opinion the majority of reviews by proffesionals are unbiased.
You can't trust the haters opinion just like you can't trust the fanboy's opinion of a game, usually the ones who can put aside the hate or love and go down the middle road and point out the good and the bad are the ones to trust.
I agree with the OP. I'm going to wait for an open beta or a bunch of good reviews - not because I've been dissuaded from buying due to rumors surrounding the game, but because I've grown tired of rushing into new games on day 1 only to find they blow.
Kcissem, why are you protecting Funcom with your NDA stuff , whats in it for you ? Please don't say ethics because you can't return games. Funcom is beginning to look shady, at least to me anyway.
Well the loudest people are always the people that spew negativity. While the NDA is in effect the people that are enjoying themselves and don't want to lose their account don't breach the NDA, but the people who never had an account in the first place, or the people that judged the game in a state way before launch, or the people that were in technical beta and barely got to see the game at all but judged it anyway are the people who are going around slamming on the game. Half the stuff that they complain about is stuff that has been fixed, or are complaints from an early closed beta period.
So why should the masses be persuaded by these people? Why would any intelligent person not wait for the NDA to be lifted and get feedback from the honest players who may or may not like the game. The ones who honor the NDA even if they aren't happy with the product. Once it's lifted they will voice their opinion at the same time that people who enjoyed the beta voice theirs.
One of the biggest guilds that openly breaches the NDA did the same thing for Vanguard. They all slammed it as many people did but now.. they are all playing it happily while half of them slam AoC in the same way and most of them aren't even in the beta they are just going off of what others have said. I know of one guy that got banned for breaching the NDA and him and all of his friends continue to spew out lies and crap because he wants the game to fail. I just refuse to give any credibility or take anything these type of people say with a grain of salt especially when you mix in all the die hard WoW fans that bash new games just for the hell of it.
The game is going to do what it does with or without people like this slamming on it. That is why 99% of the time their opinions should be flat out ignored. The honest people on both sides of the fence will reveal their thoughts when the NDA is lifted, and after a month of the game being out everyone will know the state of the game.
not really protecting funcom even though it may seem like it, but this always happens for every mmo, there are always negative comments before release based on beta leaks, sometimes they are founded and sometimes they are not. it's a 50/50 shot either way you look at it whether you believe the leaks or not or you find out yourself by taking the chance and preording. The best advice to the ones that can't afford to waste money is to wait till the game is released and a trial periods opens up which will happen most of the time after a month or two of release.
I just think its a little redicolous that forums are filled with uninformed people whining about something they have no clue about yet. Leaks are useless. As i said in the previous post you can't trust the haters or the fanboys, trust yourself and your own opinions by either testing it, buying it, or waiting for a trial period.

I couldn't put it any better, my thoughts exactly.
I could really care less I have been waiting for this game for a long time, I pre-ordered it! I figure this I have been waiting for it, way before beta's. I'm going to try it anyways so might as well get some free stuff in game for doing this, right? Just waiting for peoples word back to you isn't enought, you know what peoples word did for me, Well lets see I bought Vanguard because people said it was good and it well wasnt. I bought lotro, good game very slow not for me the fact is I checked them out asked the masses and ended up buying a game I didn't play over 2 weeks each. That list has a few more on it Tabula Rasa and EQ2. I am just gonna buy a game that interest me and see what happens. That is what happened when I bought UO for the first time 6 years ago and that game was unbelievable even with 2D graphics and that was what was stopping me before. I took a risk when I bought DAoC when it came out I didn't know more then the box told me and I loved that game.
Yeah, I have to say, so far I'm wary of jumping right in at this point. Guess I'll wait till the NDA comes down and see what people have to say about it before deciding whether to play or not.
Might pick up a copy for my son regardless, he's bored with WOW.

I agree with OP.
I will wait too. I am not gonna spent any cent before i will try the game(beta, trial or whatever).
For the rest of nubs who reply "greedy", aks yourself who is greedy actually here? The ones who ask for money for a beta already? Hell...
LOL, if you wait till NDA is down and listen to the people you are doomed and you will never play a game again. Most people dont have a clue what a bug is. If every NPC has pathing issues then is ONE bug and not 2500. Same goes for a lot of other bugs. Any everone on this forum who is working with software and programming can tell you that the biggest bug is between the keyboard and the chair.
A sensible position which I will most likely follow. Good points.
Can you do anything else but make emo posts ?
If you can't handle a 60dollar game why do you even have internet then ?
I see your logic but all your doing on this boards is write nothing but negative stuff, also your trying to defend and spread your point of vieuw on the case, and honestly who cares.

I LOLed IRL at your post Sypro. Do you work for FUNCOM? I dont want to be rude, but stop telling us what to do with our money.
