Bored

CPTAssistantCPTAssistant Member Posts: 19

I have reached a point of extreme boredom.  My desire to play an MMO is an at all time high, but going thru the game-list here, I honest to god, can not find anything that appeals.

This game has sparked interest, but my RL buddy has played (I believe when it first launched) and claims it is a pile of crap.  I am bored enough to prove him wrong, but am not rich enough to waste $$ if in fact he is right.

I know all of you will praise the game since I am in your forums, but realisticly, even the most hardcore players have their dislikes... what is it that rubs you the wrong way in this game??

On a side note, I hate to beg for a trial key... but I guess personal preference may just win out on this game, and only I can decide that one. (anyone care to share a key, and the name of a good server to play on?)

i think its a really fun game. (noticed post on the refreshed every 10 seconds tickerter thing.) I play it off an on, i prefer the PvP in it and im not a huge pvper.  Story is kinda cheesey but fun.  Game lacks some sort of Auction House or something, due to its lack people just spam item calls.  You cap very early in the game, about 30% of the way through single player.  However if you claim you have played every MMO on the market than this game isnt for you.  Its not really an MMO in the sense its not really a continuously free roaming world.  Every city is broken into districts and when you leave the city either alone or with a group it loads that version of the world in its own instance.  So th eonly time you run into another person is in towns.

All in all, the game isnt for you if you are looking for a long time MMO.  Play FFXI if you want something time consuming, challenging and frustrating.

Or hit up wow on the otehr end of the spectrum.

    Or Lineage....maybe not.

Im sure you can find something, however this game i dont think you would enjoy. happy hunting

    Thank you for your input,

Some notes for future responses:  I have not played many of the MMOs, maybe I worded my original post incorrectly... I have looked into most, have played a bunch, but simply wrote-off quite a few!  (Some just aren't worth the time spent downloading)

I'm not really looking for something that will last forever, as I'm hoping either Conan, TCoS, or Warhammer won't suck completely.  What I am looking for is a current time consumer, and a future fallback plan... that has decent PvP that I can get into within a months time.

For the record: I have played FFXI, decent game but I would never start it with only one (hell, even six) month of future enjoyment.

WoW:: /cut /cut already wasted enough time on that suckfest

    L2:: same as FFXI

hehe fair enough. if your looking for a temp game with good pvp then i think it might be for you.  The game revolves around getting your skills and you have a large pool of skills.  because it is focused mor eon skills rather than xp, you do level fairly quick and are allowed to enter the PVP arena at level 5 i think, right when you enter post-searing.  There are $1.99 trials you can buy so you can try the game first. I reccomend it if you just need somethin temp.

For the record: im right with ya waiting on AoC and WAR (mroe AoC though ^^) goodluck

How did you finish all three campaigns in normal and Hard Mode plus Eye of the North with 4 characters...in 3 months?

Anyway, Guild Wars is rather different to most MMOs to be honest OP.

    * The first thing you need to decide is whether you are OK with the game being instanced. If you're one of those people that get "lonely" in instances, then Guild Wars most definitely isn't for you.

    * Are you going to play the game on a hardcore basis, or casually? Guild Wars can be played either way. I've played thousands of hours (literally), but not everyone can. It all depends on "how much you can handle."

    * Do you need a high level cap in order to enjoy a game? If so, then once again GW isn't for you. The low level cap is there for a reason, but some people just don't understand the reasoning behind it so bash it when they realise they're capped at level 20.

The above points are only scratches on the surface of Guild Wars, but they cover most of the issues people have with GW. It was after all designed for the casual player. I'll PM you some trial keys. I'm not sure if they've been used or not, but it's worth a try!

If that's what you're looking for, GW might be your cup of tea. If you don't buy the PvP edition of GW, it will take you some time to unlock skills for PvP, but there are some articles here and there that give you an idea what skills to unlock first (most common ones). Also, you will need to unlock weapon and armour mods.

I don't know if you know this, but there are 3 GW games and 1 expansion. Since you like PvP, I would suggest buying the very first Guild Wars (Prophecies), since that has some rather useful skills for PvP.

If you are planning to buy 2 games, go for Prophecies, and then either:

GW Factions, which adds Alliance Battles as a new PvP feature. Alliance Battles are battles on different maps, 12 vs 12 people.

GW Nightfall, which adds Hero Battles as a new PvP feature. Hero Battles is 1 vs 1, but each person gets 3 Heroes (NPCs) to help. The Heroes are configurable.

It depends what play style you like most, really. If you like 1 vs 1, take Nightfall as a second game. If you like larger battles, take Factions as the second one.

Playing: Final Fantasy Online: ARR, Destiny
Most memorable games for me: UO, GW1, LoTRO

So, I assume you meant you played 3 months and got 4 characters to level 20 in that time.  I doubt you could've played every PvE mission/quest for all three chapters that fast.

To the OP, if you're worried about money than Guild Wars is definitely the way to go.  All you pay for is the game  - no monthly fees!  Obviously, the game is not "a piece of crap" if so many people play...and still play now.  I can still log in to Prophecies, any given time of day, and find a team willing to do a mission.  Let us know if you do get into the game, I'm part of a great guild that helps a lot of "noobs" out.  My name on the game is Takhisis Cleric.

Been playing Guild Wars for 2.5 years and at times I get bored. When I get bored I take a break and go play other games in my free time. Though I always come back to Guild Wars.

I think part of the boredom people get in GW is that EOTN was pretty short in terms of finishing end game and all there was left to do is go get titles for the Hall of Monuments. Also, we aren't getting any new content until GW2 hits the shelves sometime next year. Like all GW fans, we just need to be patient :)

Thanks for the replies guys!  Much appreciated.  I found something to do this weekend, so my decision has been stalled until early next week.

In all honesty, I will probably go snag the game, now to go research and see how much it will cost me to get those that you all recommended.

I wish all of my forums were as helpful, I find myself uninterested in posting when I know my post will get jacked and flamed to all hell halfway through.

Lmao! It appears that for all these years, the "@" in my old username was what was causing the problem. Would you still like a code CPT?

Now since the most things seems to have been beaten to death already and your next question will most likely be which campaign to buy, I'll answer it for you; Nightfall. It's by far the most beginner friendly campaign considering how organized it is and it also has some of the funniest mission in the games. Additionally you will also get access to heroes, which are an extremely valuable resource on your adventures in Guild Wars. And as if that wasn't enough, you can also compete at a decently high level of PvP since you got access to (almost) all skills for the two new professions introduced in Nightfall: Paragon and Dervish.
