I need a pci express x16 vid card which one is best? is there a diffrence betweeen a pci express card and pci express x16 card?
thanks
if you want the best and have the 600$ go with the nvidia 9800gx2 (PCI Express x16 2.0) or you can go with the ati equivalent with a little less in power for about 150$ less which is the 3870x2(PCI Express x16 1.0)
I just recently upgraded my card to the Nvidia 8800gts and I love it! Should be able to find something decent in your price range.
Does AoC definitely handle the Nvidia 8800GTS properly then?
That's my card as well, but games like my current MMO EQ2 aren't optimised to use it properly & I was really hoping that AoC would let me finally see it's true capabilties.
If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?
Make sure you have a power supply that can handle the power requirements of a more powerful video card.
Not really saying which is best as the op asked just the prices.
Op if you post what budget you are on and your pc specs you will get a better answer to not only what is your best bet but also what will suit your pc best.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

Those are the best for there respective price range.... If money is no object then I'd say get two 9800GX2 and run quad SLI

You also list your motherboard model number too if you can.
Would any of those high end cards be worth getting (for now and near future) with a mobo that doesn't support PCI Express 2.0?

yes because no graphic card out there takes advantage of PCI-E 2.0's bandwidth. There is nothing on the market that will take advantage of 2.0 right now or probably even this year. The speed is just the same x16.

Crap. Oh well, at least it didn't cost me that much, it's future-proofed and it's PCIe2.0 Dual x16 SLI.

Take the Hecatomb? TCG What Is Your Doom? quiz.
If your budget is:
$150 = 9600GT
$200 = 8800GT
$250 = 8800GTS 512mb (G92 version)
$300 = 9800GTX
$550 = 9800GX2

For anyone wondering, my mobo is a P5N-D.
