"don't listen to the naysayers....the game is truly awesome.....best game I have played since EQ1.  Best discribed as a combination of EQ1, SWG and WoW with a unique flavour of its own."

"Expect a detailed report in a few days, but the haters were wrong and out of line. This game tops my first MMORPG experience Asheron's Call, my favorite mmorpg ever and this goes way beyond my expectations."

"I have been in beta for MONTHS and biting my friggin tongue and expect a huge can of whoop ass post coming very soon. This game is the best I have ever experience and the graphics are ****ing stunning and you can play it on a 3 year old system and be blown out of the dang water.

Finally I get to say, Vanguard friggin rules and you are going to LOVE IT."

Yeah, these are all quotes from Vanguard's beta.  Now I'm not saying AOC is a bad game, I'm not even in beta.  But what I am saying is that no one should buy a CE edition without playing the game first and reading some real reviews.

The CE boxes will be available after launch, they're not going to sell out.  Spend 5 bucks on a preorder, play the early-in (if they have it, I assume they do), and make your judgement from there.

I know you're going to buy into the hype.  That's what people do.  And maybe it's warranted.  Maybe this game is pretty good.  But find out for yourself.  Show the game companies that you're not going to blindly throw your money away marketing materials.

HAHAHA that quote is pretty dam funny.  I was in the beta for Vanguard with a higher end rig at the time and the game looked like crap to me.

Hmm.... I sure wasn't as hell afraid to say that Vanguard was really unfinished when the NDA was released.....

I wonder if AoC is going to be another Vanguard?

CEs come with 5 buddy passes.

    Regular edition comes with one.

Just get a buddy pass and try the game.

***Took out the old post because it didn't even make a bunch of sense to myself. So i will say what i mean to say here.

Why should we care to listen to the people saying its awesome if we shouldn't care about the people saying it isn't. There will always be people who like a game and those whom don't. Always be weary of games you buy, especially mmorpgs. In my advice, i say take the open beta thats coming up and see if you like it.

Because if you listen to people who say its awesome, then it's more likely you'll buy it.  If you enjoy it, then no harm done.  If you don't, then that's can be at $100 you're out if you bought the collector's edition.

If you listen to the naysayers, then all you're out is a little time.  And if the game's good and lasts awhile, that won't even matter.  And if you want to buy the CE, you'll be able to, because there's always many hanging around after launch.  I haven't seen them sell out on preorders yet.

But essentially, your advice is the same as mine.  Except if I like the beta, I usually spend the five bucks to pick up the preorder so I can play the game in the headstart period at release.  I've bought a lot of those preorder boxes, and not bought the full game.

I think the message is a good one but the people for which it is intended probably won't really take it seriously.

You also would see the same kinds of posts back when WoW was in direct competition with EQ2. While not turning out as poorly as Vanguard, it was filled with the same kind of 'eq2 is the best and can do no wrong, everything else is vaporware' type stuff.

This seems to happen with every mmo, especially when games are competing with eachother. Its why i always try to distance myself from fanaticism. I've seen first hand how it can really twist a person's perspective.

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.

He's just quoting some statements people made about Vanguard when it was in beta, to kind of slam some people back into reality.  These statements aren't connected to AoC.

All I can say about AoC is myself and girlfriend are enjoying this little taste and are very much looking forward to May 20.

I was in Vanguard beta for over a year and a half when it was still Microsoft.

That comment you made is pure fabrication, since all of the beta testers I know/knew said that the game wasn't ready and for people to take caution. Can you post a link to the thread from where you took this comment?

I'm not sure what possible reason I would have for fabricating a quote on a post that's just telling people to think for themselves, but whatever.  Obviously you knew all the testers.  Here, this thread has quite a few people saying it's great.  Everyone else can check it out and have a good laugh.  It is pretty amusing.

Yes it was a good read, like this quote from that same thread.

"I prefer to not pay for a game that should still be in beta testing. I have seen enough games released to early to coincide with holidays or conventions and VG is lookingto be another one.

The game has a good base, but coding still has serious issues hindering some gameplay. Releasing a game with stutters on the highest of highend systems is just not good business. The current economy model isn't sustainable without turning a blind eye to massive amounts of currency sales.

There are litterally over 100 reveiws that just popped up on many RSS feeds on the game so I suggest bouncing around the various blogs that are posting reviews to get as many POVs as possible. Stress testing is a notch from gold version. This is another game being kileld by being rushed out of the gate."

Funcom is not Sigil. AoC is not Vanguard.

Funcom also invited dozen or so press to their offices during beta for hands on, wouldnt see Sigil doing that.

There is nothing to hide and soon all will be revealed.

Funcom made AO and that was a bad launch and everyone knows that from countless topics over the past 18 months.

Everyone knows what their getting in to.

I for one, think it is it's warranted.  And yes this game is pretty good.

Your cause is good but hey, remember to try before you buy too :)

And when you try it get as much game under your belt as possible.

Anyone comparing this game to Vanguard either never played VG or never played AoC either. Vanguard should have been aborted back when when MS dumped it. That games release was such a shameless money grab the games own CEO didn't even show up for the launch probably because he feared being burned at the stake. Anyone that would ever support a SOE game after that should probably be seen by a mental health professional.

I never played AO but saying this game is gona flop because of a game from 2001 when the MMO genre was just starting is a bit of a stretch too.

I just don't see how some people have such a strong opinion either way based on such limited information. If they really do keep the fileplanet beta capped at 13 I hope they open it up to non-subscribers cause people are gona get bored with that in about 2 hrs.

I don't care about hype. When a new game comes along I will try it regardless of what is being said. I preordered Vanguard, I payed for LOTRO and played it for 2 months. Heck I even bought Witcher and only played it for 2 days. I'm not afraid to plop down cash just to try new things. If this game turns out to be what I am looking for thats great. It might even keep my interest until Stargate worlds gets released. There are amore important things in life to me then worrying about a game.

Ok I should not listen to the good reviews, but I should listen to you.  Oh great.  What logic.

At the end of the day, its my money, my decision, as to whose view I trust more, which side of the argument looks more convincing and my gut feeling about $50 or the boxset.  Its my decision, my fault or my glory.  Views are for references, I am not going to blame anyone for "luring" me to buying or not buying.

As for your argument about saving $100 its totally nonsense.  Its $XXX vs some measure of consumption satisfaction.  If you believe in comsumption impatience theory, then deferring consumption is already a form of deprivation.  The one willing to go ahead and buy first got the CHANCE to enjoy it first, if the enjoyment turns up more than worth the payment.  If you defer payment on a very good product, you end up paying the same, but enjoying it much later.

If people truly listen to the naysayers they will have to bug someone for a buddy key, and try to get into the game in time.  For some people, they would rather part with $50 than go thru all the hassles.  They might want to try it out just for the heck of it.  Fooling around the town, trying out snacks at different street vendors, are in itself as much fun as eating the best steak in a restaurant you know so well.  Sometimes its just the novelty that gets my money.

let's not forget that AO ended up being one of the most amazing games in mmo history, and to this day still has a good playerbase and regular updates, and is soon to get a graphics overhaul.

I played it myself for years, and loved it.

Yeah, it had a rocky release, and the SL expansion was a bit of a fiasco, but that was long ago, when the genre was relatively young.

The one thing I'd point out is this..

The OP may have a bunch of Vanboi quotes.. the one thing they forgot to add?

The massive negative NDA breaking posts there were everywhere.. before Microsoft had even dropped the game.  Perhaps not many believed those posts.. until they got invited to beta or tried the game..

This is one thing I've wondered about with AoC... haven't really heard much.

The same could be said about a couple other upcoming games.  Its been .. rather quiet.
