I am a female gamer. But I have to confess that I usually make a male character online to stay away from the harassment. And I learned to NEVER use voice chat in game.
You gotta find the right clans, I was in a WoW clan with a few female gamers and they were treated the same as the guys.
But yeah...most open invite clans in MMORPGs are filled with idiots anyway.
after giving a speech on some game programming I got reintroduced to a girl(college, so woman I guess but it still feels funny calling someone a woman that's my same age) that was gamer enough to have the 'title', talked about Oblivion for a bit till we reached the row in the parking lot that our cars were at.
I'd be more than willing to bet that there are plenty of people that would be considerable for a gamer 'title' if they wanted it. but seriously it's not one worth flying to the world as far as I care and plenty of others do(and likely a higher number/percentage of ladies/girls would as well).

It's so strange because the biggest harassment story I have seen (beyond gross comments or penis jokes made to females) myself was a 39 year old married woman gamer who was obsessed with a 22 year old friend of mine. She sent a mistell once in general guild chat of the things she wanted to do to him...He said she wouldn't leave him alone. After a couple of months my buddy finally just quit the game, trouble was she had his email too. So he had to go through the hassle of changing that also.
So be careful people! Your guildmate could be loony no matter what their gender.

Had to leave Merlin and went to Guini and luckily I never heard from the guy again. Other than that episode, I do not recall any guy ever harrassing me or give me a hard time. Actually most of the guys I become friends with online turn out to be very nice.

female gamers will continue to be a smaller presence than males for a while to come, though you must acknowledge those games where there is up to..hmn..20-40% female (my guess based on guilds and the bunch of people ive met) maybe in a few years more, there will be more females

Girls harass me and give me a hard time all the time after they know what I look like. Yeah I just now got a text message for one asking for MORE PICS PLEASE!?! The Japanese girls are even flocking around me (maybe cuz I'm an American that actually knows some Japanese...yeah). I think the worst event I ever had with a harassment was me in my room on Phantasy Star Universe and a girl walks in. Talks to me and ask me personal questions then starts having a orgasm. I ran out my room to another planet and she found me and bothered me for 3 months.
So if you think guys are bad...ladies can be a little crazy too.
My problem with Tomb Raider is not her cup size. It's that she is carrying 2 Desert Eagle .50 automatics. Now these guns HAVE to weigh 72oz or more fully loaded. Not to put down the female body here (it's one of my favorite things) but c'mon! Try to hold that kind of weight straight out from your body and aim one handed.
Now lets talk about recoil while you have all this weight extended out there. A .50 is a hell of a handgun round for a man built like a truck. I won't say more...But I will include a video of a woman shooting a DE .50, 2 handed.

im a female gamer but i play a mix of male and female toons depending if i want to deal with getting harassed or not but an alarming number of people i have played games with are nut cases i mean i will be playing with them having some fun and what not then when the fact im a female gamer turns up it all evaporates then i have to haul out the attitude and put them where they belong its kinda a pain
Really hard to tell who is who even with a poll like this. Many might choose not to be honest and many guys like to pretend they're girls or the other way around so maybe just maybe some of the people is a little crossovers...

I don't know how that caters. My sister always liked Lara, big boobs are not (maybe because she has big boobs but who knows). Girls always had something to look at. Solid Snake, Leon from Resident Evil,, Gan Ning from Dynasty Warriors. Their are more sexy male models to look at than females. Musclaur guys appeal to men and so does those breast. Why can't the ladies like the breast too? (what the hell am i'm saying?)

Ummm...no...my x-fire time does not reflect my true play time because I do not always have x-fire running in the background. My true play time for Vanguard is 407hrs 23 minutes - that is since day one from when the game first launched.
I work with a lot of women and I have yet to meet one in real life that I would consider a gamer. Most are family or career driven. A lot of them are going back to college for advanced degrees.
My wife plays Sims 2 sometimes to unwind from a rough day at work. She loves that game. We used to play a lot of survival horror type games on the console. I think when Grand Theft Auto 4 comes out we will play that for awhile. We both love the GTA games.

i think the most recent poll of gamers estimated that the ratio was 45% female and 55% male. it went on to break that up into the genres and of course that was distorted greatly depending on the genre. puzzle solving for example was something like 70% female and 30% male. cant remember what the ratio was for MMO's but there are quite a few female gamers who play MMO's
