Number of MMO subscribers?

SomeOldBlokeSomeOldBloke Member UncommonPosts: 2,167

Is there a website somewhere that displays the number of subs for each MMO? Maybe one that also shows increase/decrease in subs. Just curious as to which MMOs are popular and which aren't, obviously WoW will have the highest numbers.

    Actually There are 2.

    MMOGChart.com, MMOGData.com

Of these, MMOGchart.com has been most recently updated and includes newer releaes like POBTS

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the link...  I have to say Lineage II's numbers surprised me. I tried it before I played WoW, probably about when they launched, and didn't really like it.   Also, I didn't realize the others had such low numbers compared to WoW.

I would also mention that Guild Wars is noticably abscent from the MMOGChart display

Guild Wars has 5 million registered accounts (yes...accounts. So says a chart that was on NCsoft's website), making it pretty large.

I think MMOChartz only track subscriptions. Since Guild War has a different model, it is not tracked. GW is big though .. i consider it the 2nd most successful MMORPG out there.

Yea, its easily #2 behind WoW. Sometimes I think its success is overlooked.

As for only ranking  subscriptions, im not sure, it does list Second Life which doesnt have a subscription either. However, they report Second Life as only having 100K subscribers..which I think is a bit low ...perhaps IM wrong.

Yeah, it is probably due to the fact that there's no subscription model and that once you've bought the game you're "subscribed" forever. There's no way for them to track how many people are playing actively.

Five million units, each chapter & expansion counts as one "unit" each. (Which means a person that has all three chapters & the expansion has bought four units).
Not bad numbers anyway for a game with a "experimental pay service".

Actually, that's not what the NCsoft website said last year September (note the "*" next to Guild Wars' numbers:

It would be nice if someone could find out once and for all, because this is very confusing!

It's impossible to know exactly how many players a game has

Lineage 2 I think has the most subscribers in the world
