as you can imagine ive been playing the hell out of this game so i thought id do a little write up i dont like mages so maybe someone can add to this here they are in order by archtype which classes i think are best at lv 20 pvp, of course this is my OPINION based off what i played, and of course im sure its a whole other ballgame at lv 80
Solider:
1. Guardian: forget everything u know about "protection tanks" these guys have about double the HP of other arch types, do hella good aoe dmg with polearms, and when equipped with a shield will bash you all over the place FUN class
2. Conquer: i assume lv 20 is a bad level to judge this class, they hold up pretty well ..they have a move where your next combo will crit which is "almost" like a "IWIN" button but other than that thier DOT combos seemed average at best
3. Dark templar: cant say i like this class all that much, the leech spells are hard to notice and their other combos are used to enchance the life taps, seemed like alot of work for so little return
Priest:
1. Bear shaman: WOW! this is a bad ass class right in your face, tossing around foes healing allies AOE stunning WRECKING MACHINE !
2. Tempest of the set: polearms do hella dmg even without combos for this class, mix with a very nice range stun and very good dmg spells and heals make this class VERY powerful in pvp, they also have a range AOE root spell that is great in the smaller corridor areas of the map
3. priest of mitra: even tho i rank this number 3 its acutally one of my favs, they have a range dmg spell that hurts foes and heals allies near by which rocks, a AOE stun which i would like to have a shorter timer...since bear shamans have one that is only 1 sec..2.5 seems a little much for a much less harider class, i think at higher levels this class would be much better
rogues:
1. Ranger: blah..i hate to say it even without the dmg bug they are a amazing class...behing able to sleath and go range with all kinds of great shots...such as a snare shot and a mez shot added to the fact they have traps, the maps also have lots of bushes and bridges and even a base where a ranger can look out and shoot, its hard to not make this class number 1
2.(TIE) Assassin: neat class relys alot on poison and DOTs, they tick very fast with good dmg however and can be increased with combos, they tear priest down like nothing, they also have a unholy feat tree where they have shards like WoW's warlocks where they can do some powerful moves as well, nice twist on this class
3.(TIE)barbarian: pretty much everything i said about assassins but take away the daggers add a big broad sword and instead of poisons this class uses knock backs and stuns...for the life of me i can't pick which class i like better

Pretty good class review. Nice read as well for anyone interested in reading up on the classes. I also would have to agree with everything you said about the classes, except since you do not like mage type classes, ur missing out on necromancer.

I wouldn't roll Ranger at release. From everything on the boards today, Ranger is gonna get the nerf bat, will be gimped, and then brought back into "balance" nine to 12 months after release. Always happens with an over powered class like this. Nothing worse than playing an over-powered classes at release so you get to end game real fast only to find out that they nerf bat it to hell and you get so pissed you roll a new toon. Yes, I play a Rogue in WoW, can't you tell?
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
Ranger in the last patch just had their weapons nerfed lol. :P
But yes its going to take a while till everything is more or less balanced. Im happy with the amount of classes and the variation in them too.
LOL, figures. Oh, and I'm willing to bet money you guys have yet to get Skull out of character creation. Those female pics you linked are insane.

yeah ranged classes are always a balancing nightmare...
That is cause imo, ranger classes are always the 'jack of all trades'. They have the ranged combat but still need to be efficiant at close combat. So hafta be good with bow n blade. Plus they often get stealth n skills of an assassin. And they often get tracking/trapping or some special hunting skills. So they have a bit of knowledge of everything n end up being mediocre at everything rather than being good at just one thing. I find rangers one of the harder classes to play since often gotta spend skills all over. I love the ranger class...usually it is all I ever roll. But they always seem to in the end get to be the nerfed class.
classes are all mostly the same as wow. only mele combat has changed with combos.
My blog:
Good Review. and for the guy above me... This is nothing like WoW. At all. Please don't even try to compare because Age of Conan takes skill instead of WoW damage meter math which is no fun...
being honest i guess you *could* say the assassin and ranger is simlar to WoW's rogue and hunter...but really a rogue is a rouge and a ranged archer is a archer....all the other classes DO NOT have a direct comparison to wow
No mention of the casters? Do they all suck or something?
