...EQ, M59, UO to name a few.
+ it is a clone of Warhammer Fantasy Role Play and Dungeons and Dragons games going 20+ years back.
I could not resist. I was just reading a thread herein the Age of Conan forum stating that AOC is a WOW clone. Is that not the most ignorant thing you have ever heard. I guess any game that has a:
User Interface with a hot key bar (done long before WOW)
Quest giving characters (Done long before WOW)
Raiding and PVP (Done long before WOW)
Leveling and item buffs (Done before 3d graphics were ever invented)
is a WOW clone.
People, if you are going to post as if you have some clue at least have some clue. The ONLY games on the list of released and soon to be released games that do not follow the convention are EVE, WWII, and maybe one or two others I have not played. I refuse to count Darkfall as it is mostly vaporware at this time it appears.
Using these conventions does not make the game a WOW clone. Blizzard did not invent these they just did a good job at executing them for the masses to understand.
Age of Conan is no more a WOW clone as EQ.

think for the most part everyone knows WoW and as played WoW and where most of the ppl who play mmorpgs come from now so they see a game like it its going to get called a clone and i think its going to just get worse too new games coming out know how good WoW as done so they are going to copy it sucks but they do and will and yeah WoW took almost everything they did from the mmorpgs before it
having said that tho i think AoC is the only game i have played in 4 years since WoW that did feel a lil diff it just looks and feels right i had pretty much given up on finding a new game just thought everything was a cheap copy of WoW and i was pretty sure i would feel the same about AoC but the pvp weekend just a small part of what the game as to offer made me pre ordered it and i sure am ready for something new
I would dare to say, those that claim every game is a WoW clone...prolly have started their MMORPG playing with WoW. Tho there are some games that have been released since WoW that I do believe copy too many aspects of WoW that it is hard to deny they are clones. However WoW took many working points from years of other games n rounded it all off into one package. WoW is a clone of several other games long before its time.

I was not comparing WOW to UO ( or rather making a direct comparison) and I have played both . My point was , and yes I know it has been about beaten to death, that WOW is not original in its concepts and has taken elements from almost every other MMO that came before it as well as table top RPGs and single player computer RPGs.

Okay, but aren't we passed beating this dead horse? I mean.. anyone who has played this weekend and anyone in the general beta should already know that AoC isn't a clone. The combat alone makes it entirely different.
