Can anyone guesstimate when the OB sign up will begin?

I wasn't able to get into the pvp beta, and I'm dying to play.

The "Open" Beta will be open by May 1st, but will only be available to paying subscribers of some site (I forget the name and to be honest I don't care enough to search for it). In other words, there won't be an open beta, unless the company reconsiders their decision to make the beta only available to certain people. I can understand why they are doing this, but their reasons aren't going to be worth the obvious results and feelings toward the game that will happen because of it. I can see the open beta becoming a little more "open" before May 1st, though. For all we know, they have been planning to do this from the start. But as far as we know for now, we have to assume it will only be open to subscribers to a specific downloading site, as that is all that has been released so far about an Open Beta of any sort.

The definition of an open beta doesn't include the word "free" in it. (go look it up yourself, it really doesn't)

Someone has to pay to distribute the game and File planet might as well be the one.

If you want a free trial, that will be sometime down the road I'm sure.

Keep watching this site, or you can sign up and they'll notify you when the open beta sign-ups begin.

I realize AoC isn't the first game to require people to pay to another source to play their betas (or to pay, basically). I'm just speaking in the general knowledge of most open betas, and what they are really meant for. When you limit the amount of people that can join an open beta for an upcoming game, it just staggers the game more than help it.

Stagger the game more than help it?  Does it really?  Do you need 500,000 people to submit the same bug -- that's a lot of time to waste sifting through duplicate reports.  Stress the servers?  That can typically be done with software alone but adding the human element helps.  Nah, I don't think a lack of a true open beta really hurts.
