While I'm admitedly not the biggest fan of the character models, the landscapes are gorgeous in EQ2. I'll give them that, they got the environment down pat. I just hope they make good use of all that pretty terrain, and pack it to the gills with mobs, and cool stuff to interact with, unlike EQ2's somewhat 'slow' cousin SWG.

These shots clearly show EQ2 at its best. The scenary is excellent and really encourages me to explore this world.

If only all the character models and annimations could live up to the standard of the scenary.

" the landscapes are gorgeous in EQ2"

Wow you people have no clue what your talking about. EQ2 has terribly basic landscape at best..

    THIS is nice landscape/level design..

Both dragon empires and Mourning own EQ2 in level design and landcscape environments..

"""These shots clearly show EQ2 at its best""

than I feel sorry for them..because those shots aint nothing special at all.

world of warcraft has nice level design too.  EQ2 landscape is kind of dull because its mostly all flat land or at least in all the shots ive seen it is.  There is no huge cliffs and MT's and deep valleys that make great views and interesting areas to explore..

Exactly what I was thinking... I havent really seen any rolling hills or mountainous terrain in any of the EQ2 movies or screenshots... and If I have I obviously wasnt impressed with it cuz it didnt stand out... Mourning has nice terrain so does WoW.... EQ2 reminds me of SWG wide open spaces with very little mobs around (hopefully EQ2 doesnt follow SWG is this area).

Well, I totally think that you wouldn't be excited to go on that huge building(as shown in the EQ screenshot), because once you turn around to look at the view, your game will lag up and might crash.

Lol maybe you can find any "basic landscapes" of EQ2 screenshots? There arnt any. So where you getting your info from?

Ive just checked every fansite and every screenshot. This is the  only main screenshot portraying anything similar to a mass landscape like those you shown in your post of a different game.

Didnt stand out cos there isnt any screens/vid's showing the mass terrain.

I have only seen one "rolling terrain" video and that was made sometime early 2003 when the game was in or before alpha, ie hardly anything there.

No they don't. Here is a perfect example...

    http://www.realmsofkrel.com/screenshots/15.jpg

Look at the ground texturing in that shot. You see how sharp it is?? The same as in that EQ2 shot..

Mournings engine has a setting that allows you to adjust the view distance of the texture quality to help with performance.  If you set it on HIGH the resolution of the terrain textures will be max as far as you can see.. if you set it to low or medium it becomes "blurry" far away and only crisp/sharp around your character. You can see that in some of those shots, that setting isn't set to full view distance, but where the textures ARE max resolution they are 100% equal in resolution to the shot you posted of eq.

and by the way. I think that Eq2 shot blows..just shows more of how terribly basic the level design really is ::shrug::

lol wtf, that screenshot you shown there doesnt even touch what EQ2 has.

You find some MMOG that has as fine detail of grpahics than those, instead of those BS of screenies you think are "crisp" and "sharp".

"Archoness" is not a word by the way.

Oh but I think it does. In fact I think the screenshots you just posted of EQ2 are pretty ugly looking. They seem "off" somehow. Like they are fake or made out of plastic or something.

and those shots are only at 1024x768..

So like was previously said.. EQ2 does NOT have any better texture work/resolution than this games engin has.. in fact it can even be argued that EQ2 does not have any better graphics at all.  And thats a fact JACK......... deal with it..

forget about it. you wont convince eq2 fanboys of anything even if you have black on white proof..
  • jenanglessjenangless Member Posts: 49

I posted some screenshots of Mourning on some forums a while back and people thought they were from EQ2, so yes there is similarity in the quality of graphics of both games.

One game might do a few things better, and the other might do a few things better but both games have very nice looking engines..   I wouldn't mind running around in either of them..

  • sparkatbsparkatb Member UncommonPosts: 175
Even if i wasnt a EQ2 fanboy, id still class EQ2 graphics as more "crisp" and "sharp". The ones you posted are very very slightly blury at the point where different color textures meet, EQ2 doesnt seem to have that. The last EQ2 screenies i posted show pure graphical detail right down to the finest detail. Those EQ2 graphics are ugly? From what ive seen of WoW you may aswell just watch an episode of Scooby Doo cos thats what those graphics look like, 100% cartoony.

Look at this lol, the amount of very slight blury patches on this screeny, even that mobs nipples dont look like they are meant to be on his chest, his whole body looks like its been cut out from a PaintShop art program and pasted onto the background scenery. Even his arms dont look like they are meant to be attached to his body. You call that impressive?

Geeezz, open your eyes, dam. Oh well, its in Beta, they have time to get it right.

As the other guy said, both games look great. (even tho EQ2 looks ugly eh?) image

Its just the very fine detail.
