Well unfortunately with the influx of about 28k players in the first two weeks there's no CPU teams to offer contracts to new players or teams to buy until they get the new servers in and leagues set up, and a little tough to get on a human owned team at low level.
Just a note that 750 new teams will be available for new owners starting tonight. In regards to getting a new player on to a human owned team, the best way to do it is to post in the Looking For Teams forum that you will play Season 1 at minimum salary. You will get many offers and can pick the team that looks like the most fun. Money is not important your first few seasons...experience in games is. Warning...it's addictive. Whoever thought of taking fantasy football and combining it with some of the concepts from MMOs has struck a goldmine. There will be a ton of spinoffs on this over the next year trying to cash in. If you don't like football, don't bother. It's basically just FF + experience points and levelling up, but the competition and camraderie among teams and forums + the strategy involved make it hard to stay away from. There are already some friendly and bitter rivalries just after one full beta season. If you are a fan of the game, chances are you will have alot fun with this. I swear I don't work for them or know anyone who does. I'm a bigtime MMO and Fantasy Football junkie who's just over-excited that someone finally thought of combining em.
