Question

BladinBladin Member UncommonPosts: 1,089

I've been reading alot about WoW and so far im not really sure if i want to try this game, and I have a few questions.

1. I've heard that you can only play so much per day, or something along those lines, is that true?

2. Is it going to get a graphical update anytime soon, personally I think the graphics are hideous, sure i can see how they look good, but personally considering its major competition GW/EQ2/DAoC:cata its kinda behind.  Sure graphics aren't everything but they are a huge factor.

3. I've also heard that the game is mainly quest based, where you advanced much faster then you would if you just went out and farmed? cuz i hate doing quests <.<.

4. In PvP is it totally of balanced like in daoc? where you can get 1 shot by people your own level

I think i can answer some:

    1) No thats a lie

    2) No, the graphics are great. If you don't think they are you haven't seen at least 200 screenshots. Graphics cannot beat gameplay and trust me, EQ II has very bad problems with their character models (i got a link to the site that explains it to ya if you want to see it)

    3) Don't think so

    4) I don't know

Wait for more replies and you should get a full answer.

    EDIT:

    heres the site:

i do agree EQ2 does have its problems on <Some> models, and some of the things are horrible, but i listed more then one example for graphics, the main problem i have with WoW is not that things are generally unattractive, but that they are blocky(on same things more then others) with some ugly textures on things, kinda smeary.

see what i mean, their models are really blocky, and their armor has some things that look smeared, not alot.  and look at the trees in the background, awful.

Thats not true. You may have heard something about the rest system but that in no way stops you from playing 24/7.

A lot of people who see the screenshots seem to say this, however my mind was very quickly changed once i got into the game and started seeing things in a moving environment. However they won't be getting any major graphical updates anytime soon, but they may be fixing a few little things, i remember the water being mentioned but im not sure.
    3. I've also heard that the game is mainly quest based, where you advanced much faster then you would if you just went out and farmed? cuz i hate doing quests <.<.

I'd say you would level at the same rate if not faster simply farming. For me i find farming rather boring, however for a lot of quests in WoW there is a bit of farming involved so that may help you. Also quest EXP is not effected by the rest system. However it's up to the player to choose what they want to do i guess. It should also be noted that it seems the far majority of groups are formed for doing quests.

Well I haven't been 1 shotted yet, im sure it's possible. They havent begun to take a serious look at class balance for PvP yet, they havent even added all the classes yet.

The rest system used to be set up into levels that would degrade to a lower extent so much that you would recieve less than 100% of your normal exp. I believe the levels used to be; Well Rested=200%, Rested=150%, Normal=100%, Fatigued=75%, Exhausted=50%. When the levels used to be like this ALOT of people complained that it limited the amount of time you were allowed to play because at one point you would be lagging so far behind that it was best if you just logged off and allowed your character to get to a higher level of rest state. People didn't like it because they felt it was a way of controlling there game time and as well psycologically if you are not getting what you were used to, you are going to get upset because you expect to recieve so much exp, but fall short because you are playing, It is sort of a negative reinforcement for playing a game which is not supposed to happen.

That delema has been quelled for now though, they have changed the rest system into 3 levels as such; Rested=200%, Normal=150%, Tired=100%. Though this still doesn't solve the psycological aspect of it completely, it does mislead the player into thinking that he was recieveing a bonus earlier and as such usually neutralizes the negative.

    I'm just gonna rephrase what DaShiz said, cause thats basically it;

Thursday night, I camped out at 9pm.

Friday night I log in at 7pm.  What I see, now is that for that time out game, my character earned... how to say this, for the next 2.5 bubbles of experience, I will earn a bonus.  Example; if I kill a mob that pays 120 exp, I will earn the 120 +120 exp for the kill.

Once I've earned that 2.5 bubbles of experience,  I am no longer rested.  I no longer receive that bonus.

I play until 1:30am Saturday, thats 6.5 hours of constant playing and my character did not enter the fatigued state.

The longer you stay offline or sleep they longer you will receive the exp bonus.  However, you do not have to sleep.  This is just a feature built to provide casual players a chance to keep up with power gamer friends.

You mentioned that you don't like questing, I'm assuming it's the types of quests in daoc that you're thinking about.  Daoc quests suck big donkey... noses.  Quests in wow are actually quite fun.  You always have the entire quest description in your log, so if you don't really feel like reading about a gd moonstone (/vomits on daoc) you can just read it while you're running to the spot, on the griffon, whatever.

However, you most definitly -will- lvl faster by doing quests.  Almost all of the time quests involve some sort of killing.. which gives you xp like you were just farming anyway...  so after your done getting the 20 Deviate Raptor hides, you can just run back to the guy who gave you the quest for uber xp.  Then there are quests that you get where you only have to kill 1 guy.. woot that's bank for xp.  My favorite quest was protecting the disciple of Naralax while waves of baddies came in trying to destroy him.

You also get nice loot from questing too... stuff you can't get from just farming.  But honestly, the quests really are enjoyable.  They make farming fun.

PvP right now is incredibly unbalanced... but as of yet there are no "One-shots" from ppl of your own lvl. Keep in mind that only two of the eight classes have their talents, and hunters aren't even in the game yet.  Don't you fret, ole Nylian the Nightshade wont come up and PA your Cabalist butt for 1056 damage =P (Damn albs I swear.)  Only times I've gotten one-hit was by the 50 mage, and the 50 warrior. (I was lvl 25 =P)

The rest system is also quite nice... if you're gone for about a week, lets say, and you come back and play... you'll have about 1.5lvls of 200% xp.. makes it so you can get back on your game that much faster.

If there is a way...I'll find it.
