I for one am sick of quests. I feel they cheapen the online worlds and make them seem like to do lists. Why can't we get a quality sandbox game. Quests are lame IMO. I've always felt like I was in the minority on this topic so I decided to make a poll and see.

Its not quests that are lame, but quest design can be lame.
Kill 5 rabbits and Ill give you my grandfather's magical sword?!?! ..who's going to believe that storeyline?
However, some quests can be real intense and draws you in. Some are just downright enjoyable and make you laugh (Anyone remember beating sleeping Orc Peons in WoW?)
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
quests are a good thing in games give you some thing to do, as for killing 5 rabbits for a sword , well first off it wasn't a sword it was a +1 str ring in asheron's call , but i digest ,man that was a good dinner.... quests should have some kinda story to it or if not a story have it be like a wanted post kill this guy talk to this get a good item
I like quests that are actually quests.
I dont want to quest for exp, and i dont want to go from quest to quest until the end of the game.
I want quests to be something that you have to find ( No blinking Icon). Once you find the quest then it is something that you decide if you want to do or not. Quest loot should be something that is cool to have but you dont need to have it to play the game. Examples for EQ would be things like JBoots or the Mask of the Deceiver. Also pure fluff things are good as quest look, such as house decorations.
Also quests for faction i am a fan of. While i dont hate the kill quests, i.e. go kill 200 Orcs and i wont hate you as much, i would rather have quests with a bit more thought put into them.
I would love an awesome sandbox game, but I also feel the need for good, well written quests that give depth to a games storyline, so I like both but I voted for quests, I just feel they are needed and can be fun if done well, not just (borrowing from before) 'killing five rabbits', it isnt any fun but if you are given a fresh whacky task that hasnt been given before, then that will bring depth to ur gaming experrience, and thats what i am trying to find... hopefully in Stargate Worlds
The current overall implementation of 'quests' is at least laughable to the genre. There's no excuse for John the Serf asking passer-byes to kill the rabbits that are eating his crops in return for gold or a magical trincket.
John the Serf is not being a good serf; he's not toiling hard in the fields to produce the grain in time for his master, but instead you find him chit-chatting. He also seems to be holding out on his landlord, who made sure to impose heavy taxes on his serfs so they wouldn't need to worry on material possesions.
John the Serf is darn lucky there's some mysterious power dissalowing me to run my blade through the ungratefull disobediant little git or at least let me rat his sorry ass on his landlord.
Funny I was just playing a korean MMO "Granado Espada" and a single NPC gave 5 different quests:
hunt 100 _____
hunt 150 _____
hunt 200 _____
hunt 250 _____
hunt 300 _____
I was like What The Fuck? -looks for uninstall shortcut-
I get yah, that sucks, still though if you have good questing then questing is what I shall do, not useless grinding style quests, lol thats why i got out of that game pretty fast, as well.
I like the quest that you discover somewhere in a secret place and start a chain of quest that you have to travel all over gameworld, with many different objectives gather this item or deliver this so next npc can tell you how craft that, then go there activate a lever it open a room, where a hidden box is but becarefull its triggerd with traps take friends with you to make your way through a dugeon find a npc who can tell you next step and so on.
Quest should be exploring solving puzzles have combat make way though dangerous dungeons find hidden items passages and many more things to accomplish such quest when finish you feel realy good you have done it:)

Anyone play THE WITCHER? That's the kind of quality questing MMORPG's need. Where NPC's have realistic problems which are solved in logical ways.
I for one will never pay for another MMORPG that asks me to slay a boar... or a rat... or any other barn yard 'red shirt'.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
