Someone recommend me a good MUD?

Well its simple, i need some time to occupy until WoW comes out, dont wanna play and pay to play MMORPGs that are coming out before it, just got done playin L2 and playin a regular RPG Gothic II which is turning out to be a real bummer, thought i would try my luck with a good MUD...could someone recommend me one?

If you are interested in playing a text MUD go to topmudsites.com and check out their top 20, most of them are pretty good and have a decent playerbase, they also seem to cover most of the styles.  I personally recoment achaea which seems to be one of the most developed and friendly of the MUDs I have played, but there are way to many out there to recomend one, as you gotta look at whether you want PvP and also what kind of world (fantasy, sci-fi, gothic etc)

    Happy MUDing till WoW image

Achea  is one of the biggest. Huge world, huge population. It's pretty good :)

All of the top ones on http://www.mudconnector.com will be superb, but a lot of the smaller ones are brilliant two, just with smaller, more intimate communities. Decide on what genre you want and there is bound to be one that specificly tailors for what you want. Remember, there isn't just the traditional MUDs out there, there are lots of variations, like TinyMUD, which is a mainly social MUD. image

    Bobbler,

I personally use ZMud. It's a really good Mud client with mapping features, aliases, and much more. You can try it free for 30 days, then you have to register it if you want to continue using it. You can download it here url=http://www.zuggsoft.com/zmud/zmudinfo.htm]http://www.zuggsoft.com/zmud/zmudinfo.htm[/url].

If you're intent on playing in the web browser, try downloading the latest version of Java from http://www.java.com/ - that is if you haven't already. I know that when I was using Internet Explorer, I had many many problems with Java applications. I recently switched over to Mozilla Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/ and of my browsing, java, and security problems have gone away. I suggest trying Firefox for a week, I bet you'll switch!

If all else fails, you can always just use the built in telnet of Windows 98/2000/XP. Just go Start -> Run -> Telnet <address name here>.

I also switched to Firefox recently and find it far better then IE.

But i prefer Portal over Zmud.

Portal is alot more newbie friendly and the client and text itself looks alot better. It's not as versible as Zmud but it can still do almost all your advanced and basic things like alias', macros, events, variables, ect.

but for the techy power MUDer, Zmud is a better choice.

Oh, and portal is completely free whereas Zmud only has a trial version.

Althought almost everyone just pirates a copy of zmud anyway :/
