the main world is NOT instanced, it is divided in zones, between the zones u have borders (the "invisible walls") the dungeons will copy themselves if too many ppl enter them so u get for example dungeon 1 -> gets "full" -> dungeon 2 appears... this is to prevent dungeon 1 from being overcrowded the zones in the main world will NOT copy themselves the starter area(s) will have copys tho (i think...else they will get overcrowded), but u have to see those apart from the main world
jesus what eevr you want to call it if it has numbers and loading screen its an instance to me.
Example. Tortage the first day when all the noobs will be running around in 1 starter area, you think they will be running around all altogether? You think it takes alot for a zone to get full? GB has 100x less people and each zone is copied rampant. Infact yes true obviusoly you will see peopel when the zones not copied and full. TBH i cant think of anything in the game thats not 100% instanced or has a loading screen.
they will be in copied versions of that zone in instanced copies of that zone, so you wil get torateg 1 tortage 2 etc etc tec. So in my terminoloy its instanced and zoned. same with BK and every zone on the godaman map.
Wow did you even read the OP's post and ANY interviews with the devs? And just because you have your own inaccurate terminology doesn't make it the case.
Yes the game is zoned. And by zones I mean the real game world is divided into sections like EQ and even to an extent DAOC (you zoned into the realms or dungeons for example). I have no issue with zones because it allows the game to run better and it will help performance. I can't imagine AOC without zones; the computer needed to run it would fall into the "1% of the population can afford it" or "hasn't been invented yet" ala EQ2 at launch.
Mentioning EQ2, many of the zones in AOC will make copies of themselves. I will not call these instances because when I think of instances I think of WOW and their model. SO there will be zone1, zone2 and zone3. Its the same in EQ2 - you would have Commonlands1 and so on when those zones get full; again technology used to handle server load.
Now instancing is limited to very little in AOC if you think of it in the way of WOW. Yes the pvp mini-games are instanced but thats because they are games and designed to be balanced and fun. Other than the game's objective, it has no bearing on the world. The best way to think of it is like Unreal Tournament style of games. That to me is instancing.
Guild/player cities will be the same way. But not battle keeps.
Now as for PVP, it might be instanced as in you zone into it (mainly for server load and such) but once you do its one big battle. I doubt there will be multiple instances of the same zone. It is is impossible because all the attacking guild would do is attack in one copy and all the defenders defend another. That makes no sense. SO it will be just the one copy and by definition, that is not an instance. A zone yes but not an instance.
And finally, if you have such an issue with the game, seriously don't play.
Instances in wow are bloody raid dungeons and BG, im not tlaking about instances like that im tlaking about the game world being sinatnced like EQ2, where it will be copied and then instanced so you will have numbers like tortage 1 and tortage 2, and yes this is a fact and yes this is an instance, like the person said what ever way want to call its, its all semantics.
This topic pops up from time to time. I wouldn't worry about zones or instances or whatever. If what you're looking is FFA PvP, you'll find it plenty. And when the time comes and the guilds mature to the point where they can build Keeps, you'll see sieges. The terminology is irrelevant at this point. All it matters is the fun factor.
As for certain individuals, if you want to be haters, please do it properly and offer some true negative facts. Posting outright lies is not cool, unless you're a 10-year old and you're having a fit.
Technically there isn't much difference between an instance and a zone. The difference lies in who and how many can acess it and how many copies of it exist. Both has "invisible walls" and both needs loading (moving a character between servers).
A zone everyone can access and there is no copies.
A instance dungeon a limited number of gamers can access and there may exist more than one copy.

I think the problem lies in the use of language, "instance" is now seen as derogatory term after its over use in WOW and others (certainly compared to previous games such as EQ). My highly subjective view is that if you and your group are "removed" from the main game world, unreachable by non grouped members this is an instance.
If ,however its just a loading screen to a new zone, that is reachable by others, it er , a zone. In this interpretation then, AOC seems to be mostly zones rather than instance from what I can glean. Thus, cristising AOC for being all instance's, although I am going on second hand information like most, seems a bit harsh.
I'm sure there are flaws in this assement, I have no expernice of EQ2 and mutiply copys of the same city for example, so I'm not quite sure how these mechanics actaully play out in the "real" (virtual) world.

I also think that world zones do not make copy of themselves they are just zones separated by one loading screen.
