You guys should note: Blizzard is only as good as it's marketing team, and the large portion of the target market they captured were children under the age of 24. 10, 11, 12 million subscriptions, or whatever the count is at these days, is also another marketing ploy. No they do not have 12 million people playing WoW (add server average player count x number severs = do the math, its not even close to 11 or 12 million ), its just how many accounts (or subscribtions) were SOLD, statistically 12% of those accounts were baught by "foreign companies" (which Blizzard allowed by-the-way). GUESS WHAT, has anyone EVER heard OF COUNTER-STRIKE? OR EverQuest? Each of those games sold more than 20 million copies world-wide over a span of about 5-6 years. So I don't think Blizzard has reached the 'holy-grail' status quite yet. I'm done.
As a casual i loved TBC personally, looking forward to a new version of it + their next attempt at expanding on RvR concepts.
LOL.
Ill do some math.. lets just stick to the western subs as most think chinese players are 2nd class.
there are 463 EU+US servers... from blizzard last press release ( http://www.blizzard.com/us/press/080122.html) there are 4.5 million Western subscribers (please the subscriber definiation below, before talking crap, about being inacative, banned etc).
4,500,000/463 = 9,700 per server
9,700 per server on average thats more than possible.
What is also interesting is that its a fact Blizzard sold 2.4million pre-orders for TBC on day 1. this rose to 3.5 million copies sold in the first month.. this alone backs up wow sub number. (and these were sales just for the western market).
Noe please go troll some other game.
World of Warcraft's Subscriber Definition
World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules.
I'm sorry but new hairs and new dances is not a "winning formula". LoL The storyline in WoW is complete rubbish. WoW was good before Burning Crusade. In fact, it was really good but as soon as they ruined the storyline with raiders killing Illidan, I lost respect for Blizzard. I know for a fact that they going to kill off Arthas is some retarded way like they did with Illidan. PvPers wouldn't care about that but people who actually do care about what's happening storyline wise will not play the game. After killing Arthas, what's going to be left? Forsaken is going to leave the Horde because they achieved their goal. I can go on and on but just thinking about it is giving me a headache. Heh Play WC3 and you'll understand. As for it outselling TBC, idk about that. Many people are not happy with the outcome of TBC. Only people I see getting the next expansion are either fanboys or people who don't have any other MMO to play.
TBC boomed cause there was nothing to play.. nothing new. Vanguard proving that yes, you really CAN take 30 million, 5 years and be the poster child of "Epic Phail" left the market barren. Thus TBC had everything going for it.
WoTLK has two games with chances to pull players, AoC and WAR. With WAR IMHO going to pull the bigger slice of WoW players away, but that's just me.

As coffee already clearly pointed out the lack of braincells used in this post was beyond imagination
