Anyone here play Eve Online..I play it and saw it was one of the best rated mmorpgs out ther anyone played or still play????you gotta pay but still its a pretty fun game after you get good......
I tried beta and have tried it for the past two days. Is it really as boring as it seems. My friend and I were going to play it, but I tried it first and decided not to bother. I couldn't even manually control my ship. Bah.
I am Saranth. AKA Brokenlizard AKA Ikoo Games Played SWG - 10 months total AO - 2 years off and on (2 months at a time usually) DAoC - 1 year off and on AC2 - 4 months
FFXI - 2 months or less CoH - 2 months or less Horizons - 2 months or less EnB - 3 months or less
Pristontale - 1 week so far Lineage II - 15 days EQ - less than 1 month
God I need a new game to play that will hold my attention. Any Suggestions?
I played the trial for a few days then slowly got bored. especially since i lost a few ships with one of the problems with it. I know a few people who, when warping, arrive at a destination only for the computer to freeze for a few seconds while it loads the asteriods or turrets and station or whatever you arrive at. It's not a big problem... unless there are baddies waiting there shooting you while you are waiting for your computer to respond. I found it too frustrating.
I am currently subscribed to eve... i was in beta and bought the game a couple months after it was released but couldnt get into it...
I recently decided to take a break from SWG and am trying EVE again.. unfortunaly i dont think its the game for me. I mean, I think i want to like the game more than i actually do.
the whole time based skill system is just so unnatural to me. I am more of a powergamer type player, and im used to having an edge over casual gamers becuase of it. In this game, there isnt that type of gap between casual and and power gamers. (although there is still some gap when it comes to veterans and newbies, especially when it comes to money.)
The game itself looks great, one of the best looking MMO's out there, but not much variety considering its space. And the game has alot of depth, something that was lacking from Earth and Beyond if you ever tried that...
Right now im training a skill that is going to take 6 days to complete and i find myself not wanting to play much until that skill finishes. I feel like It would be a waste to buy a ship with my current skills, when i can get the ship i really want in 6 days.... then again, maybe in 6 days when that skill finishes and i can start working on getting an even bigger ship Ill feel the same way again... if thats the case ill know its time to cancel.

Same thing for me. I was in the beta, didn't really like it that much, bought it a few months after release to see how it improved but I still didn't like it. I downloaded the trial a few days ago and now I'm really enjoying it.
What did I do different this third time? I didn't make a mining character. I made a character with the sole purpose of being a combat character and the only time I have mined a thing is during the tutorial. And right now I'm really enjoying the game more than I have before.

yeah, the first months in eve were just mining to get most money to buy new stuff. currently you can make a combat char and still get a fair amount money by killing npcs. not as much as you get for mining, but you dont get bored so fast
Once you get passed having to have to train a new skill for every item or ship you want to try out, the game really opens up. When you can use a selection of ships and all items neccesary for the basic setups, the skill of the character start becoming considerably less important then the skill of the player. Someone with a few low level skills can easily destroy an opponent with much more skillpoints if he is better at fitting his ship and knows how to use his modules. I have a second account that is a few weeks old and on it Im running around on a frigate, taking out the cruisers of players with 10 times as many skill points.
That said, if they players themselves are identical in skill, the characters skills will determine the results. So train your skills and j00s i7 wi53ly.

I've been playing the game for well over a year now, and started out doing mining and hunting. And yeah, the start-up period was sometimes boring as one collected ore to get a new ship.
Nowdays I'm pretty certain the best way for a new player to start out is running missions, and especially for corporations that offer plenty of "Kill" missions, such as the various Navy and Security organizations and certain sub-divisions of these such as "Internal Security". These missions often take place in the same system (=quick) and satisfies the homocidal tendencies of every pilot, I hardly ever get anything but kill missions...wish these had been around when I started.
Even for more experienced players missions are good. I ran two missions for my Level 3 agent yesterday. In about 25 minutes I netted ~150,000 isk, plus 25 standard missile launchers (not so good) and 90 Tech2 components (very nice, @30,000 isk each).
