KenzeKenze Member UncommonPosts: 1,217

Ive never really watched any anime before watching Appleseed: Ex Machina today. I really liked it. can anyone suggest any more along the same lines as this?

Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Ghost in the Shell and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (Series and Movie) are great choices that I know you will like. I think you should also check out Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Shamploo.

I tend to like more mature/serious anime. Here are some titles I like:

    Akira
    Cowboy Beebop (the series)
FLCL (most of it is about as opposite of serious as you can get)
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (1st series and movies)
Trigun (starts silly but doesn't stay that way)
    Neon Genesis Evangelion
    Noein

Samurai Shamploo is also pretty good.

Thanks for the suggestions all, this should be enough to get me started. Although just googling some of them has me a little confused. There have been quit a few remakes and branching series and the like its kinda confusing  me as to what order I should watch.

Im looking at the Ghost in the Shell, Akira and Neon Genesis Evangelion stuff. Anyone give me an idea of which order or versions I should start with? Oh by the way Im more than likely getting these through my Netflix, unless I find I like them enough to buy.

    Thanks

For Ghost in the Shell the movie was released first, "Ghost in the Shell", but it happens after Solid State Society.

This would be the series viewing order-

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (2002)

Ghost in the Shell: 2nd Gig (2005)

Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society (2006)

    Ghost in the Shell (1995)

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (2004)

I would recommend watching "Ghost in the Shell" first though, as it will allow you to see if you like the series at all. Netflix has the movie and the first series for view online as well. The movies SAC:Laughing Man and 2nd Gig:Individual Eleven are just compilations of certain arcs from the series put into movie form. It is usually much better just to watch the t.v. series then to watch these compilations to get the full story.

For Akira there is just the movie that I have seen. For Neon Genesis it would be the original series then The End of Evangelion. I didn't watch Death & Rebirth myself but it sounds like another compilation movie of scenes from the original series as well as some from The End of Evangelion.

As previously commented about Neon Genesis Evangelion: First watch the series, then watch "End of Evangelion". "Death and Rebirth" is a compliation of the series plus part of the "End of Evangelion" movie; if you're going to see the movie, then don't bother with "Death and Rebirth".

The handful of animes that I've watched past the first few episodes:

Ghost in the shell stuff, Wolfs Rain, .hack//sign(when I was younger), junni kunni/twelve kingdoms, and that would sum it up.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Ghost in the Shell (Stand Alone Complex) is the best anime that I never seen.

Story, character, reality, are all the best of the anime.

Much much much better than American animatiom

Some of these are going to be repeats

    More serious

    CoyBoy BeBop

    Trigun

    Gungrave

    Hellsing

    Serial Experiments Lain

    Last Exile

    Boogeypop Phantom

    Witch Hunter Robin

    Samurai Champloo

    More funny

    Cromartie Highschool

    Lupin III

I would watch out there are alot of animes that are bad, in fact I would say the majority, there are some gems though.

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

    Gto - comedy

Devil Hunter Yohko - rated mature, some nudity
