Question # 4 – I keep hearing that Mythic isn’t letting a lot of new people into the beta!
Answer # 4 –Over the next few months we are going to be letting in a lot more people. The plan has always been to allow a greater number of people once all the core systems are in the game in one form or another. Large scale and prolonged beta testing of an MMO without all the core systems would be pointless and frustrating for the testers. Remember, we are getting to the point where we want a lot of people to be able to play the game continuously and experience everything that WAR has to offer, even if it is still a little rough around the edges.
This should be posted on the walls at Funcom headquarters.

Why?
Do you know exactly how many people are in beta? Doubt it.
It's 20 some odd days away. You'll live.
Jinx.
talk is cheap
and as a fan of both games...all is fair in love and mmo's.
did you read this? woot....!.one in 5 chance!!!!
Here's an exciting chance for you to get into the Warhammer Online closed beta test! When BOOM! Studios' new comic, WARHAMMER: CONDEMNED BY FIRE, hits stands this April, readers will have a chance at gaining entry into the WAR closed beta test.
Each copy of WARHAMMER: CONDEMNED BY FIRE #1 contains a special scratch-off which reveals a code giving readers a 1-in-5 chance to get into the Warhammer Online beta test.*
Or how many AoC has in the General Beta?
Do you know that WAR will also have a limited Open beta where not everyone gets a place just because he feels like it? As in, the spots in the Open Beta will be limited.
Sorry, fail.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
Betas should be extremely small and limited to dedicated testers out there looking for bugs and trouble areas. It shouldn't be a preview of the game, that's not its function. All these people are trying to get inot the game simply so they can say "OMG I GOT INTO THE GAME BEFORE ANYONE ELSE LOLZ !!!11"
If you simply want to play the game before anyone else then preorder. Don't waste a testing slot simply due to impatience.
Don't confuse a players ability, with a class being Over Powered.

How do you even think like this? No one with any brains at all preorders an MMO without trying it first. You could apply this to any type of game but mmos especially. Funcom know's what they're doing, you don't.
Maybe it has to do with the interview with one of the funcom guys not too long ago (earlier this week or late last week) about what is in beta and what isn't. In regards to core systems that is.

I think Athelan in his blog a couple of months ago said it was in General Beta but the area was locked off to testers whilst internal testing is still going on. It was a while ago this was said. Like February. Whose to say what has happened since then, collective hand picked testers? Continous internal testing (FC has a large number of employes and some neat Q&A guys)
In response to the Original Post, testing is supposed to be frustrating. And there is big difference in the way the sieges are in both games. One being AoC's keeps are all player hand crafted for one.
Your right, you should try a game before purchasing. That's why the created a new fangled thing called a TRAIL VERSION. Guess what, Trial = a tryout or experiement to test quality, value, or usefuleness before your puchase the game. Beta = a prototype, nearly complete stage in a product's development where it is tested and finalized for deployment to the general masses.
You kids of today don't understand the difference between a trial and a beta nor the purposes of either.
Well, this far along in the AoC beta, with release just around the corner, they're probably not as interested in the actual testing of much besides their server loads. They just want bodies in their doing stuff to weigh them down.
As for being a small group of dedicated testers and not people who just want a free look... meh. They'll get a mix of both and get the data they need. They always start with in-house testing and add as they go along. I'm sure they to keep the numbers under control for what they need done. Picking random testers when they start needing a lot of people seems to have always done the trick. It's only in the early stages they might choose people manually... after that, it's probably automatic.
A lot of people like to think they'd be a better tester than the average punter off the street who's just looking for a game to play, but chances are, you'll both play a part. They'll be people playing and data collected. Some will look for bugs and some will just stumble over them. A lot won't even bother making reports, but they'll still add to the telemetry and feedback.
