This is strictly a questions for naysayers. Understand I'm not saying DF will or will not come out and this isn't a debate about whether it will or will not.
IF Darkfall comes out, would you be willing to play if, eventhough you spent all your time naysaying?
OR would you not play it in spite that you were wrong?
I don't want to hear answers like "OH well it's never coming out so I won't have to make that decision" and all those other lame answers "smart" people try and give to show that they are unmoving in their stand. Leave that at the door, this is totally hypothetical.

As I said in another thread, I and I think quite a few others of the "naysayers", will gladly play the game to see what Aventurine actually manages to deliver. -IF- it comes out, I for myself won't be too proud to say I was wrong...that is to say -IF- it comes out and -IF- it delivers what it promises. If it delivers and cuts half the features they have glorified for so long, then I suppose it might still be a good game, but it won't be something to draw people from other games.
As it is, they have promised to deliver the Holy Grail of MMO's. If they can live up to the promise, more power to them and yes, I will be checking it out.
No reason to remain a doomsayer if there's no doom to talk about.
So we shall see how it plays out, hm?
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
whats the point of this thread? Darkfall won't even come out, so i believe noone has to make any decision.
* i was joking btw. heh.

I would be glad to play it, provided at least half the promised features are in the game.
There's no way I would pre-order this game... but if they had an open beta (a REAL open beta) or if the game got good reviews from a number of sites, I would surely give it a try.
I seriously doubt anyone would refuse to play the game out of "spite". Of course, this entire discussion is academic because... well, never mind.
Well I can't say that it will for sure come out, or that it would come out with a certain amount of features, but I will say this.
This whole thing with Darkfall is extremely childish.. it's just gone way over a simple debate of whether it will launch or not, or if it will deliver what people ask. I mean taking it off of MMORPG.com? Come on now.
So it made me wonder what would happen if the game actually launched. I mean some people really put their heart and soul into putting down Darkfall, I just wondered if it launched if they'd still be so dead set in their decision to see Darkfall fail.
Would you still give it a try even if it didn't have every bell and whistle promised?
But what you're really asking people is, "Would you play a game that promised to be all things to all people?". You aren't really asking a question that makes any sense. It's easy to promise all if thats all it is promise.
It's like the obsessives who start comparison threads or use comparison arguments between DF and other games, how does another game stand a chance against what is nothing mroe than promise.
But in answer to your question, yes I would play a game with AI like they've promised, with a ruleset they've promised, with the graphics, fps comabt, crafting, exploration, sea battles they've promised.

I would count myself as a sceptic rather than a naysayer, but I would definitely love to try the game and with an open mind. There is nothing I would like more than for DF to live up to all the hype as it would give me something interesting & challenging to play, but at the moment it all seems rather doubtful.
After all, a sceptic who isn't ever prepared to update his/her views is really just a zealot.
If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?
Take the Hecatomb? TCG What Is Your Doom? quiz.
Why don't you go check the other threads that ask this question....?
and yes, i would play it

I think most people like the idea of darkfall, idea beeing the keyword. Nobody is saying they don't want it to come out. I for one would play it if they bring a game that has all they promise with more or less up to date graphics. Not going to happen tho.
Yes, I would try it. Most of us, naysayers or not, want this game released. I'll be at DragonCon Labor Day weekend. I'll come back and let you know if Aventurine decided to show up or not and allow the fans to play test their game in an open environment.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
That's not a gaming convention and it's not even in Europe.
As others have said, if it came out AND pulled off what it said it will...then yes, of course I would play. So would essentially everyone else as well, since they've promised to deliver us an MMO orgasm topped with win. The trouble is, if they fail to deliver on ANY level...the response will be worse than it would be for games that suck, but promised nothing. Its the Fable syndrome. Fable was an awesome game, but it wholesale dropped the ball on what it promised to be. Being an awesome game isn't enough when people expect you to be super awesome happy fun time made whole as a video game. Aventurine has almost entirely ensured their own demise because of this. I truly worry that, even if they DO release, it will still fade into nothing...another shining example for other dev teams to use as reason to shy away from innovation, simply because the decided to promise the world when no one can deliver it.
Who would wanna play something else after trying DF? Seriously?
This video had me big time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuLeQkTj074
where do you get your info?
Good thing we will have a feature complete game when open testing starts.

Bankai, I really dont mean offense when I say this, but it is obvious that you dont understand what "feature complete" means to a software dev.
In general, they have stopped adding new features and have the framework done for planned features. This framework may only be on paper, mind you. Even assuming they have gone past paprerwork, and have some code written, the HARDEST part is not done. It has to be debugged and work as intended. From a consumer viewpoint, it is far from "complete".
Lets take a couple examples of "feature complete" games that I am familiar with. I still have the original game manual from WWIIOL, which shows LMG's (light machine guns) as one of the available infantry weapons. At LAUNCH, there were no LMGs in game, even though we past "feature complete" long ago and even got to the point where it was printed in the manual. My memory is a little fuzzy, but I believe it was a year and a half AFTER launch, before an LMG ever made it in the game. How about another example! Roma Victor. Go to their website and check out the features listed, on a game that has been released for about 2 years. You will notice cool things like "combustability"...but guess what? You STILL cant burn anything in game. How about "item weight"? No item has any weight in the game as of today. Were these devs bald faced liars? Some think so. I dont think they are liars, just using marketing weasel words. The features were complete...they just didnt work, and so were not enabled. Problem is, consumers think complete = debugged and working as intended.
That video had the opposite effect for me, it made me not want to play the game even more. "Hey look our guys can ride horses!!!" "Even better, our guys can stand around!!!" Perhaps they should rethink what videos they release, maybe something a little more... exciting...

I agree. someone should tell the Darkfall developers to stop acting like children and man up with their shit or go home already...
It's getting really old.... fast. This project is starting to see a big public backlash and its just going to get worse..
So? They were at E3 2006 and that isn't in Europe. But they didn't bother to actually show anyone from the public their game there either. They brought it along on some kind of fucken laptop or something and supposadely showed it to some fanboy dev sucker in their hotel room...
WTF?
I'am still trying to figure out what exactly the reason was for them being there standing in a booth with a Darkfall poster hanging behind them while at the same time forgetting to have the game in the booth along with them.
If any fanboy wants to take a crack at that one go right ahead.
Probably just took a trip to blow someones money.
I'll bet this thing is an investment scam. It stinks of it. Just hard to believe anyone would actually fall for it this long..
Fact - a very early investor already lost alot of money on Darkfall long before they moved off to Greece. Some guy was funding them in Norway when it was only like 4 guys... he's not involved anymore.
I bet even the devs would like to play this game if it ever got finished (started)
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.

TAso meant it as its has allt he features it will be getting until after releases actully : ) yous hould relize by now taso hasnt bene lieing even tho seom dev journals said the same thing but all that means is that there redid some stuff but you have to understand there markiting stragy to even belive them. we will know this year if there full of crap or not.
and there making sure everything works before playtesting starts theyw ould have to spend extra time ind ev to keep the promises they have made and id ont see why people cant relize this

obviously you cant relize the investors have seen the game so to keep funding would mean there not lieing: )

Uhh...yeah, those are the features for release. I assumed that was understood.
We will know this year, eh? Funny, that is what I thought would happen in 2006. (I was a member of a clan that had been accepted into the "clan beta of 2005")

I realise more than you seem to understand. Everything wont work. A small team of "pro-testers" and bots wont be sufficient, no matter how long they take. Real PLAYERS will do things paid employees dont even consider trying.

Good Lord man! You do know that every game has investors...even the turds. Right?
Investors don't "keep investing". They hand you a wad of cash coupled with an agreement upon completion of the task they invested in. Not many investors keep handing you wads of cash after the initial agreement, generally you already have an ideal in place about how much total money you need for a project.
Also, there is no evidence of what any investors have seen. They could have seen a simple game demo where some models moved around on a single tiny island. They could have seen a full functioning client, complete with online access and server function. I doubt it, because if they could have shown investors that much they would have shown a member of the gaming media as well.
FACT: You have to go to the investors. Gaming media will often come to you, especially when your project already has such widespread interest on the internet. The gaming media NEED stories, and big ones. I would call a fully functioning DF client big news. Especially if they delivered on even half of what they promised.
whos says there paid? if thre nromal paid just to play the damng ame >.> then they will find it if they play normal but who know s: ) maybe there lieing how would i know. but formt he sounds of it we will know this year. or noone soging to belive them after this anyways.
All the bots are doing is help stressing the server and testing performance stuff thats it and probly bugs int he skill system tarrian can be done too there not litterly testing like anromal player geese

It is obvious from this thread you have not researched MMO development or any MMO game. When there are actual beta testers there are always rumors and NDA "breaking" sites. always. If you know where to look and who to talk to they are quite easy to find. There is nothing about DF out there that has been confirmed. The fact that it does not exist pretty much proves that no one outside of the company (sans some abstract "fans") has ever seen the game other then through static media (pictures and movies).
Even if the game does not come out this year, there will be new fans to take up the flag of blind faith in DF. Many of the critics on these boards were former fans, myself included. I am still a fan of what DF is suppose to be, I just don't believe Aventurine can deliver. They will release the game, but I doubt it will live up to the hype Tasos has built about it.
