Ok ranged versus mellee

Question is since there is collision detection in game. Will sheild wearers be able to block arrows with their sheilds.

scenario: Your in pvp and your rangers need cover to fire from. You stand in front of your archers and raise your sheilds to cover them from incoming fire.

Here's my biased responce: I hope so

Here's my real responce: Probably damage reduction

Yeah its one of the things i really liked in ddo was you could raise sheilds and block incoming arrow fire.

    that would be really neat...

...though I don't see anything like that happening for another couple of years down the line, at least when it's at a point where it is commonplace on MMORPGs. Just isn't a big issue at the moment.

To answer the question it will probably be significant damage reduction rather than the arrows bouncing off.

Yes. To both. Having played it, you can corner people in with a group, and yes, you can hold X to active block though there is still chances to hit you.

You can raise your shield to guard yourself from melee attacks, but it drains your stamina very heavily.  So you wouldn't be protecting rangers very well. You can attempt to jump in the way of the shot for them, but considering you can't see an arrow in flight at all, good luck lol

I'd guess that you can protect yourself from arrows with a shield, just like melee, just not very long.

crossbows go through people, so no really. although maybe some damage reduction.

Well the answer is yes and no.

Sadly at the moment magic and arrows/bolts (shot from 3rd person view) automatically hit sans any resistances, etc. But thats IF the user can target you. If your surrounded by Guardians with sword/board and they are blocking, it may be difficult for a ranger or spellcaster to target you. Mages can shoot their spells off without a target but it instantly targets the nearest person in range, and that wouldn't be you.

The yes is rangers (and other bow/xbow users) in 1st person mode, which is over-the-shoulder. They have to AIM to hit folks. But they get an advantage. In 1st person mode they get 25% more range and bonus dmg. But they won't be able to target you unless they have a height advantage.

That said, with collision in melee you won't get hit if you've got a shield wall in front of you. Well unless your close enough and your being attacked by Guardians using Polearms, which have a pretty long reach. :)

nice post but if a ranger manages to click on you, then he can just auto aim. doesn't need to do the 1st person view thing. so it won't matter if there are people standing in front of you. and as to standing somewhere where they can't click on you, they can just press tab to cycle thru enemies. then they got ya.
