need help in purchasing a new sound card

hey guys, well i come to you guys  cause i know alot of you are knowledgeable and can trust your input. here is my dilema as follows.

I have a creative x-fi extremegamer its a good card overall cant really complain. but the drivers are atrocious, in fact i just upgraded to the latest drivers and for some reason i get wierd anamolies and my headphones dont work properly when i stick them into the remote from my X-540 5.1 surrround sound speakers not to mention the sound isnt that create due to the sound always reverting to 2.1 and have to continously manually reconfigure or utilize CMSS 5.1 which is essentially 5.1 emulation. not to mention i dont have to state how long we wait between releases of drivers. its a long time. they have atrocious CS which i have experienced personally.

so bottom line is, im looking for a top gaming card I can rely upon to provide excellent sound. Im getting paid a double check this week (yay me so ill be buying this weekend most likely along with a new cpu upgrade yay me again) so let me know what are my options. Ive heard of realtek, and razer, and some others i cant remember off the top of my head.

oh yeah i also utilize reason 3.0 to do music and other sound editing SW in tandem with avid composer (job related stuff). let me know what you guys think. throw me some links of specs etc would be appreciated as well. thanks guys and gals.

ASUS actually has a nice soundcard out now in the $80 range.

There's a link to a review of it. I'm sure you can find other reviews at other sites. Overall I'm pretty optimistic about it.

i grabbed one of these to replace my x-fi card a few weeks ago, so far i've been fully impressed with it. i'm not an audiophile at all, but i can actually hear the difference and it's nice not having to deal with creative's crappy drivers.
