Server Merge May 20: Too little, way too late.

So we were asking for a server merge around in late 2005 when the game's populations took a significant dive. I stopped playing completely in 2006 when there was very little going on except for a few hours each day. I hear now "peak populations" are a little better than 100 folks on the entire server. Pathetic.
The only use a server merge had was in retention. Now that most everyone left, there's not many folks to retain- so what does it matter? This is just a downgrade in service to keep costs low to operate the game. SOE doesn't care about a lot of it's smaller games- but it keeps them running to artificially inflate the value of it's All Access Pass, where it makes it's real money from.

You heard wrong, theres alot more than 100 folks per server, obviously with a game of this age population is lower than WoW which is expected, that doesn't mean it can't be fun, and it is fun.

The server merge is going to be awesome. There's still thousands of subscribers. Its just that at any given time that you log in, there may only be 100 people on. That doesn't mean that everyone gets on every day. There are times when there are less than 30 people on, and there are times when more than 300 are on and all fighting at the same base. Still, this merger will mean that there will be a lot more people on throughout the day rather than only at the "hot" times of the day. The Gemini server will be the closest thing to "the good 'ol days" that PS will likely get.
In my opinion SOE is merging the two servers because of lack of profit and nothing more. It is not because of population issues. For if it was they would have done it sooner and patch it more and fix all the damn bugs.
Planetside is nothing more then a cash cow business for Sony. Think about it, where else can you make empty promises to long term players and still get them to pay their monthly fees.
If the planetside players were smart they would have bailed a long time ago like me. I got tired of all the emplty promises and moved on. Now I enjoy a lot of great games for my money like COX and Tabula Rasa which is a little like PS with the exception of vehicles.
PS players wise up and leave. STOP being Sony's cash cow supplier.

If people are wanting to play the game, they have their own reasons. Just like you had your own for leaving the game. Don't tell people what to do with their own hard earned money.
Forums are meant to be a place where we can help others, give opinions, comments and much more. However, it is not a place for people like you to insult people just becuase you are tired of some people and or do not like what they say. I think you need to spend a little more time reading threads and less birching about them.

xSSx if you think they are going to listen to me. Then WOW I have more power then I thought! But really they will not. I only gave them my viewpoint and suggested that they should think twice and before getting into the game and for the ones there to think about getting out. Because the bottomline is money and nothing more then money for Sony. People this a business for them and if you ever working in a company with a 1000 or more employees you will understand where I am coming from. Please do not get me wrong, at it's time Planetside was an AWESOME game. However, the world is changing and PS was never design to change. For as I reseached on the net while playing PS as to how the game came about. I was surprise to find a statement from one of the many designer of the game advising Sony not use the current engine in the game. Because according to the company who made the engine an older version that was not design to except code changes. For if they did change any of the codes during game operations, tons of bugs would appear and they would never be able to get rid of them. They did suggest for Sony to use the newer version which would except any code change without a problem. However, Sony decided to stay with what they had because it would cost them to much money and time and the player would never know anyway.
Firestorm, I have no idea where you got the idea that I just complain about other peoples' threads. I generally only post on the PS board contributing to the conversation and sometimes in other areas. I've never even seen you on this board. On top of that I find it odd you've had the account for over a year now and just started using it.
Glockin has had a long history of complaining about anything PS related ever since he left and even when he was still playing. He always got bashed on the official PS forums for his threads and even here. Don't go into something that you don't know about in the first place.
Forums are meant for a place for people to communicate, but I just can't stand people that complain and complain about it. You can disagree with someone about a topic, but at least have valid reasons. One of the top ones being SOE all the time. Sure they aren't the best company, but people make it seem like its their life work to make SOE go out of business.
You're on of those people. Going around and telling someone that their stupid and wasting their time with a game. If they enjoy that is all that matters. So go whine elsewhere about it. Theres a difference when it comes to saying "I don't think its worthwhile to play a game with such low pops" vs "You all are dumb, you're wasting your time, smarten up."
Besides that its obvious SOE is merging the servers for business reasons. It is still beneficial to the players, allowing them to have bigger fights. Of which I'm looking forward to participating in.

Yes PlanetSide did have great graphics during beta, but it didn't work out. I don't even want to imagine how it would be running on peoples' computers with those graphics. My old desktop with a 7900 GT probably would be in the red during yellow alerts.

I have to say that the ingame screenshots are very good.
If only, some models like the Wisp, or the Haarv, have outdated textures ( rock texture on a spaceship? wtf?).
A few key texture updates on this game would enhance it tremendously.
Also, there has been some advancements on "procedural trees", that looke really cool and are fast to render.
I kind of like the nowdays graphics and engine of Planetside.
gameplay > graphics. i couldnt care less about the graphics in a game if i really enjoy playing it, which is the case with PS
Jesus Mars you still playing!, well i think i might reinstall tomorrow and get it ready for the merge god knows it might bring it back to life a little bit more.

lol, Glokin, hates planetside because he sucks at it. lol.
The merge also was one of the best things to happen; it injected new life into the game, and created a resurgence in populations (new subs).
