Well, then let's stop all games. And TV while we are at it.

Hehe. Yeah in order to have a chance at making millions more social and healthy, you'll have to stop a lot more than just this game.

You make too many assumptions.  Also, if Warcraft ended, whose to say people just wouldn't go back on another game, or just go watch TV?

Oh, and "if warcraft really did ended"?  Seriously.  Mabye instead of running outside and excercising you should go to english class.

ur so wrong dude.. 95% of all addicted nerds, not just from WoW, will look for another mmo to play. they dont just quit and go out and hang out with friends and get sun exposure. they go and find another game to play to feed their hunger.

my troll sense is tingling, but...... sure why not dive right in. You make a few assumptions here that are not necessarily true...

not everyone who plays WoW is a repressed anti-social individual.. in fact most are pretty social, they just choose  guild and game instead of a coffee house or restaurant. Simply because one is more socially familiar than the other doesn't make it any more or less "good".

as has been stated, you'll have to nix a lot more than WoW to create the utopia of outdoor excitement and exercise you describe.

odds are people wouldn't have more free time either, something else entertaining will simply fill the void. Afterall you can't be around friends or outside 24 / 7.. the world just doesn't work that way. Have to do something, TV, Book, Game.. all the same song, just a different band playing the tune.

    >_> <_< ^_^

It was a good try man, even if all these people would rather bash your typing and grammar over actually looking at what your trying to say. They bash you, but also missed the class on reading comprehension while they were in school. Ironic really.

    Anyway...

As many have stated, even if 10 million didn't play WoW they would just play something else, even if you banned pc games, you always have consoles. If you banned consoles, you have cable TV, if you banned cable, you have a porno mag. So really, in this day and age there isn't a way to make people go outside.

I applaud your effort and reasoning. Just isn't feasible.

    I don't think that's exactly true.

It was WoW who lured 10 million players to the genre. So, if there was no WoW you probably wouldn't have this volume of players until a game came out that catered to casual players, was easy to get into, fostered a sort of "popular" community and streamlined the MMO gameplay.

That's not really the case either.  I know when I accepted the invitation to Beta test WoW I was currently playing a couple other MMOs, granted I didn't continue the game upon release, but that would still make it roughly 9,999,999 it lured, not really 10 million!

What would happen if WoW ended is simply this: innovation would come back into the market.  WoW is inhibiting innovation because every game that intends to survive even minimally has to copy WoW.

That's the nature of the commercial entertainment beast (3D-animated talking animal kiddie flicks--seen em?).  Once Wow dies a timely death (which it likely won't for years, mind you, because it's very, very strong), then something new will be allowed to happen.  That is to say, investors will be willing to part with cash because the risk of failure will be somewhat lower.

WoW, in and of itself, is not a bad thing, but it has palpable effects on the industry, and not all of them are good.

Arguing with me will not make you right.

    I'll do it for you.

The point of his post was that WoW brought many new people to the world of gaming.  When the game truely became a huge hit, people who usually wouldn't be big on online gaming decided to play.  WoW brought all different kinds of people together to play, not just the gamers.

WoW's popularity int he genre is what brought so many people to the gaming world.  wether or not they will stay is a different subject.

Thanks Mike for that explanation and you're absolutely correct, but what I was referring to was the fact that the 10 million number doesn't pertain to him, nor does it imply anything about how many have been lured to WoW.  Okay, I've slept so let me explain again.

Sovrath was implying that 10 million number was how many played WoW that never played an MMO before, which is incorrect.  Sartorius was implying it really isn't 10 million because he's wasn't lured to WoW, but the 10 million number is the number of active subscribers currently and since he's not one of those, it has nothing whatsoever to do with him.  Neither of them used the 10 million number in the correct context.

The number of people that WoW has lured is unknown because we have no way of knowing for one how many people have actually subscribed to WoW since it's release nor how many of them played an MMO previously.  That 10 million number is how many are subscribed right now, it's not how many have subscribed since release.  I really wish people would stop quoting that number as something other than what it is.  The number of subscribers since release is a heck of a lot more than 10 million because obviously many have stopped playing.  How many of them never played an MMO before is anyone's guess.

I see.  WoW brought many people into the market who would not usually be a gamer.  They sure did not bring in 10million players in, but they probably brought a good amount.

    I agree entirely.

ofcourse!!! wow is the reason why there are so manny problems in the world....

not. It is your own dessision how mush you play this game, it is you own dessision to choose between social life and wow.... wow has nothing to do with it, it is just a game, it's the player who choose how far they go in playing a game

and for all the people who are thinking about it: WoW is like hardcore, it will NEVER die!!!
