Honda and Ford are well-established companies...these guys aren't. I just don't see these guys being able to create the perfect MMOs without any prior experience in the market if they're not willing to be flexible...
That's the charge of any game designer, not just MMO's... when was the last time you tested or were consulted on a console game?

Even without input games can turn out great, and adversely games can turn out shite with too much input.

When it comes out, see if you like it, don't get all pissy because you can't beta it a year prior to release.

I am  skeptical of a gaming company who has been working on 'Secret Projects' for 3 years. The industry changes yearly (if not monthly) and unless they were doing a LOT of brainstorming or were working with 'beyond cutting edge' technologies, they are already working from 'current' if not behind.

One note about the customer feedback. There is pleanty of that going on with the current MMOs that are coming out. Just because they choose to use research/feedback based on other gaming companies findings (if that is what they did) doesn't make them a 'bad' developer.

( I have to play the devil's advocate when possible.)

....and I'm not going to bother bringing up this age old topic just to explain it to you.  I'd suggest looking into that matter a little before saying that "player feedback" had anything to do with it, though.

Just one look at their website shows this is a dodgy company http://www.kingsisle.com/products.html looks like they just bought a flash template from some place... amtures at best.

Best let this one slip under the carpet.

Umm, maybe to you? I think their site is perfectly fine, and is more on the line of a business site over some of the more "flashy" websites you see for games lately. The site is pretty bare right now but obviously they are planning to add more content to it soon.

just a small edit.. the part of the site you linked doesn't give their whole site a fair chance.

http://www.kingsisle.com/index.html   is a great and well made layout, atleast to me.

Im smelling a "get your pre-order now" type thing to happen. they have run out of any type of funding and is why they are no longer in secrecy. they want our pre-order money for a multitude of promises based on future screenshots and some lore they will release soon. im sorry but there is no reason to be developing these things in secrecy unless you want to scam. i very well could be wrong but for some reason i doubt it. i wish these people all the best but in this day and age of mmorpg scams and development they are gonna have to try real hard to convince me otherwise.

Now, normally I'd just poke fun at them then forget about them, but I'm seeing some things here in their website that might turn them into something I'd like to look at..

1- They're not Korean.. That itself makes me happy. Every Korean game I've ever played is a grindfest with horrible gameplay and not even a nod in Craftsmen's direction. (Not to mention the cursed Cashshops)

2- Look at the size of their team on www.kingsisle.com/about.html. It's gigantic. That proves how they can make two MMOGs at the same time efficiently.

3- www.kingsisle.com/products.html. Appears to be that they're making a School MMOG and a Magic MMOG.. Or something of the sort. Not sure what the second panel could be all about. (The top panel is just a decoration thing, look at their Logo on the island.. Or maybe their logo is based on their games, like Wurm Online's company, Mojang, having The Wurm as their logo.)

4- Their website seems very well-done. They appear to have a larger-than-normal team working on it by the looks of some of the pages. Anyone find this as odd? I have the feeling that they have something up their sleeves.

Whatever they're making, I'll keep an eye on it.

Personally I prefer when they wait till the last year of development to release the games.

    1) You dont get push backs (Or shouldnt if they wait till they are ready) and you wont have to wait long to play it. Alot better than waiting 3-4 years to play the game.

    2) They cant promise features they dont deliver on because by then they should know exactly what their game has and will have by the time they release it.

    3) They dont have to worry about deadlines as much because they havent promised anything to the public.

That said this company doesnt look like anything special. I dont expect much.

Really looking forward to this.. They are taking the Darkfall approach and they have a Shadowbane guy.

Good luck guys. I'll be following you with enthusiasm.

It seems that finally game developers are starting to understand the fact that a lot of us gamers are tired of the linear crap put out by a lot of companies.

You do realise it all vapor untill we see something.. and taking the darkfall approch.. I assume you mean never intending to release a game and just giving us storys and odd screen shot every few months all the while say Beta is just around he corner. ROFL

KingIsle will fold in the next 6 months.

How much do you want to bet, it is a Warcraft clone or something similar with rigid classes.

Ho hum, I have yet to see much originality in any of these games.   The last orginality I saw was in AC1 which was far too long ago.

Everyone says they are making something original, yet we have yet to see one.

Having someone from Shadowbane is a huge minus, not a plus.  Probably the worst coded MMO ever.

    Sorry, I smell epic fail.

Possibly and you do bring up good points, but lets let them play couple of cards first before we call bluff.   KK  ^_^

But of course, my dear. My present state of thought lies with what they have currently presented. I am more than willing to change my views upon positive developments occurring.

^^^^   I have to agree...3 years and when they do finally have a press release...nothing.

Go to their website and find a "coming soon" caption over some pictures...sad

Incidentally, it looks like another dreadful pirate game.   Now Dread Pirate game...(Roberts!) might be another story :P

I wouldn't bet anything that it's a WoW clone, or that it is a rigid class game.

If you haven't seen any originality since AC1, you haven't been looking very hard.

    No shit.

Shadowbane was far from the worst MMO ever. It ranks quite highly on my list, actually. Did it have great commercial success? Did it have a smooth release? Of course not, but that has less to do with the game itself than with how it was marketed/released.

    Amen to that.

The last game that was designed with the players ideas on the table was Vanguard (saga of zeroes) and we all know too well what happened, don't we !?!

I'm still optimistic as some others are.  Any new MMO being developed is a good thing for the genre regardless.  A chance to bring new fans in is a good thing.

I think the fact that it was developed in secret makes it more unique if anything.  Players tend to try and make a game into something there used to.  So everything ends up looking similar in one way or another.   MMO players get accustomed to certain features.

What's amazing with today's society is that everybody believes he holds the truth where in fact they know nothing and speaks shit.

May be they are working on a wheel of Time mmo or a Magic the Gathering mmo but these are pure speculations. So instead of spitting your venom be happy that there's another company with funding creating an mmo.

lol comon all that secrecy for MMO game? Its just a hype bs  to gather some interest

  • donovondonovon Member Posts: 3

    Secret eh?

Not a bad thing IMO.  After all, I've played most of the MMOGs out there present and past.  TBH sometimes the developer's acceptance of extensive "help" from the audience kills the game.   I'll leave examples up to your imagination - mentioning them will only invite the trolls to bring flame throwers.

It'd be neat to see a developer come out with something completely unexpected for once.  I'm tired of seeing the same game rebranded and tweaked across the cosmos.
