    Very amusing, Cybe.

I agree with those that think it's odd timing. It seems just strange to announce your company exists after three years in development and have nothing to show. I don't see the point.

With all of the marketing geniuses here I'm surprised all new developers don't come here to get  ideas from you folks specifically.  Sounds like some of you could create the perfect MMOs... if you had any skills that is.  I'm sorry that being an epic Pally... or "the best at PVP" doesnt qualify you to give input to developers creating a game.

Here is what they are doing folks.... they are creating a buzz.  No more... no less.  They are getting the community talking. And guess what?  It's worked.  Some of you are frothing at the mouth about how this is great or it stinks.  There was one poster that predicted the companies demise in 6 months.  Industry analyst are you?  Nostradamus?  Or just someone that has subscribed to a number of MMOs so therefore you're opinion is one of "experience"? LOL  Show me a marketing or economics degree... I might listen.

Why announce their game titles and show you what  it is before they want to?  Announcing early doesnt do anyone any good.  I saw big proclamations on Tabula Rasa 3 years before it went into beta.  I had lost interest by then.

They obviously have a couple of products already.  The pictures on the products page are deliberately fuzzy.  Why?  To build a buzz.  To keep you coming back to see when its a little clearer.  Its all about getting people to talk about them, good or bad.

I, for one, will give any company a shot.  But saying its all crap before you've even heard the idea?  No thanks, I'm not that closed minded.

    Have a nice day.

Secret? Creating two MMOGs at once? Without input from gamers? Why do I think "Scam"?

Reminds me of MMOCenter, the guys who were making "The Chronicle", as well as "Africa" , "Phylon" and some other MMOGs all at once, collected preorder money for "The Chronicle" and never released, then folded.

I am confident though that MMORPG.com will take their money and advertise their product , thus getting some members here to waste their monies, without researching the company thoroughly ,like they did not  do with "Thrones of Chaos" and "Phylon".

Tough to generate a 'buzz' when you don't have anything to say. But yes, your words will probably revive this thread for a few hours and then it'll die. Sure, people will speculate about what they'll do, this is an MMO forum after all. It's a shame they didn't have something more to show.

Everquest....created with no comunity input.  Sony couldnt give a crap what testers had to say =)

Another semi popular game.....Ultime Online  was created withought comunity input.    And then someone had the bright idea to listen to the playerbase.  And the game was ruined.  Thanks for tram/fel .

Just shut up and see what these guys can do....Nubs

Good luck guys. I'll be following you with enthusiasm.

It seems that finally game developers are starting to understand the fact that a lot of us gamers are tired of the linear crap put out by a lot of companies.

You do realise it all vapor untill we see something.. and taking the darkfall approch.. I assume you mean never intending to release a game and just giving us storys and odd screen shot every few months all the while say Beta is just around he corner. ROFL

KingIsle will fold in the next 6 months.

I just chose a random post to quote... but if you are so anti this MMO project, I hope you are at least anti whatever Bioware MMO they are developing.

    Secrecy... check

    Lack of experience... check

I can understand not getting excited about all this lack of information, but why bash a new company?  Wait until they release some info, and then you can bash their gameplay all day long.

well i have a guess on what theyre doing :)

i can think fantasy MMO and pirate MMO, both been done before but i would like to see the spin this company is doing on them.

    my proof?:http://www.kingsisle.com/products.html

look at the ship at the top and the blured picture on the left looks like a kings court :)

please dont hate me for posting this :( im not much of a forum person and i dont know if you are interested or not because all you seem to be doing is argueing over community input and developer input vs all out developer.

cant you just get excited that theres a company trying something different in there marketing ideas?

    just me then

You guys are funny... I mean, no one have a precise info to be talking about... and why secret is so bad?

I mean, if YOU was developing a game (with a lot of monney put on it) at least you would be preparing your game, to launch in the better performance possible, AND THEN you put the players to test and give their opinions...

All MMOG works this way, why should be different that time?

Oh, some people will say I'm wrong, but I'm sure these people didn't have the chance to give input on any other big-brand MMO like WoW for example...

Blizzard asked for your opinion before dismantle a classic strategy game in another universe?

Rockstar North did a poll to see what you want in the new GTAIV?

The guys from EVE Online, did they hear the people who liked the game the old way?

You see... the only thing here is that this guys announced their COMPANY... soon we will know the truth, there's no point in a discussion like this

By the way, I have a degree in marketing (for those who asked in preview posts), and one thing I can say: no matter if you defend or attack this company, the important is that you're talking about them, and that, my friend, is the objective.

Looking forward to see the games produced by them

(and if you think it's a scam, look at the team and you'll see the truth... no one is charching monney from you, no pre-release orders... so what's the scam? I don't get it.. you guys are crazy....)

Why does everyone feel it's neccessary for a game company to get feedback from players?  How many times have you played a game that suprised you by the complexity and gameplay?  A designer created that, not a dev mind you (well, could be a dev wearing both hats), but a designer, someone specifically trained in how to design games.  There is a scientific background behind game theory that encompasses everything from social interaction to puzzle solving.  Many, many games have been written without user feedback, and in fact, I feel the "feedback" when it comes to design is not a powerful as feedback that comes after design.  This is the part where you tweak your gameplay, fix any bugs, and tune the UI.  As for designing the mechanics of the game?  If that were the case we would all be running around in the uber mantle of death weilding uber swords of the void.  Games should be challenging and fun to play.  There should be rewards equal to the effort and game designers ensure that sort of balance is in place.  There is so much more to designing a game than comming up with a cool skillset or cool gear.  Most of the people who fancy themselves "designers" of sorts would probably be bored to tears with real design work.

In my experience as a developer I have found that the customer usually doesn't know what they want.  They have a vague "idea" of what they want delivered and, sometimes, a set of features.  This knowledge changes as the development cycle commences, of course, but it still remains less than perfect.  Most of these houses probably use a waterfall approach to development and only agile is conducive to the continuous cycle of getting feedback, change, and resubmit.

My final point, software is designed the way it is for a reason and the scientific approach is used for a reason as well.  Having people brainstorm, which is effectively what the community does - it sure doesn't write any code - is not a very good scientific approach and is not reproducible or maintainable.

hopefuly they make a game sometime this year because there were no pay to play games that came out in 2007 that are doing good now, so there needs to be some new games.

Has anyone noticed that the ship in the picture at  the top of the "products" tab on the kingsisle website has moved towards the right?  I think this could be a hint at progress and  an imminent release of the mmo?

Also I noticed that the picture looked similar to a red-white checkered Italian restaurant tablecloth, could this be a hint at a Mafia/Godfather type mmo?

Just my observations, lemme know if you agree.

  • daquinodaquino Member Posts: 7

    thanks jorcoman...

and yeah... looks like the image changed a little, dunno... maybe it's just an impression

anyway, the pirate boat is way to clear to misunderstand... and the left picture doesn't look like a tablecloth to me... looks more like a floor pattern, like old kitchens... if you look with more attention, there's a sun on the left corner, like a logo on the floor... in the background seems to be a door or somethin' ... dunno, too much fuzzy to know yet

I'm curious... hope they release soon (at least the image)

I also think you can get a clue, at least a little bit, from the text on the blurry pictures.  I think they chose their words carefully to place on each picutre.  The one on the left says "Classes Begin Soon" .  Now this is completely out in left field.. but ... Harry Potter?  XMen?  I cant think of another "school" setting.  I'm probably wrong.. but I'll throw that out there.  The second is less direct, but it mentions "clarity".  I think the word was chosen specifically... but no clue why.

    Just my two cents.

(BTW... stop with the Pirate idea based on their logo.... Kings Isle.. as in island... as in water surrounding a piece of land. I wouldnt put any more credence in it than that.)

  • nefermornefermor Member Posts: 70

I think the ship on their web site is just their trademark personally, but who knows.    I noticed they were hiring.  I wonder how many emails they have received with questions sense the announcement went out  LOL.I feel a twinge of that Vanguard era feeling.
I hope this works out better.   I hope they are basing their ideas on real experience in gaming too.  So many of the newer games the last few years are buying into the accepted ideas of what gamers want and so many of those ideas are off base and please only a small portion of the audience.
Here's to you Kingsisle. [raises an energy drink can]   Winds at your back.

hey, for those who think that the ship moved: you're right

    look at this...

this is the image on the website now

    http://www.kingsisle.com/themes/corporate/content/images/comingSoon_1.jpg

and this is the first one:

    http://www.kingsisle.com/themes/corporate/content/images/comingSoon_2.jpg

I was trying to access a hidden image and guess what? if you change the numbers in the url, you can see from 1 to 10...

the sequence shows the ship approaching the beach, as the KingIsle logo appears in the top of a hill (on the island, take a look)

so I think that the ship itselfs don't refer to a game, but to the launch proccess in general... as close as we get to the launch day, the ship approaches the beach

    what do you think?

also, I finded some clues... looks like there's a image on the server of Gamebryos' logo...Gamebryos is an 3D engine http://www.kingsisle.com/themes/corporate/main/images/gamebryo_logo.gif

you can see more info here: http://www.emergent.net/en/Products/Gamebryo/

there's more!! this image indicates that the KingIsle's games will use Miles1 sound engine

    http://www.kingsisle.com/themes/corporate/main/images/miles_sound.gif

    well... that's it for now

Hmmm, Gamebryo is a cross-platform middleware solution from Emergent.  Could this be a cross-platform MMO title?  I know that gamebryo is used for soe and playstation network titles as well as wii titles.  Very interesting indeed.

I disagree completely, give them a chance. I believe they are a very well managed and legitimate company.

Wow, so it looks like this hasn't even been talked about in a really long time on MMORPG.  Well, KingsIsle released their game, it is in open beta right now and it is called Wizard*101*.  I'm in the beta and it is actually reallllllllly fun.  It's a card-based wizard fantasy MMO, and it has really compelling gameplay.  So just thought I'd post it here since it hasn't been talked about in foreva.
