1) You level up to 50. 2) You do quests. 3) At 50 you raid for gear. I gurantee you that this game will introduce nothing new. When this game finally comes out in 8 years I'll pull up this thread again.
This post made me laugh for real. My friend is really into City of heroes/villains, comic stuff, and yet he hasn't mentioned this game. I myself am underwhelmed by the originality, starting with the name and concept. My first impression was exactly the same as yours, and I think we are probably both 100% correct. I'll come back in 8 years to laugh about this too

Cryptic is rolling out the skill-set/power system that they were originally going to do for CoH but that NCSoft nixed as "too complex". According to the dev notes I've seen it will follow a point-base system more than a generic level/gear based system, which is different from much of the current MMO fare.
This is more about Cryptic going back and doing what they wanted to in the first place without the muzzle of an overly cautious publisher. I'd call that something to look forward to, not something to rip on.
I read aboutChampions Online about 2 months ago in Game Informer, and it will be pretty awsome. Unlike CoH/CoV's point and click powers, CO will implement a fighting system similar to Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Alot of other aspects of this game attracts me as well; Like the gear system where EVERYTHING you equip will show on your character, nearly limitless exploration of cities, I could go on and on. I, being a fan of CoV, will be looking more into this game.
What I have not understood so far: Where is the difference to COH ?
I have played it since week two and I liked it alot. But all the years I waited for THINGS TO DO for my heroes/villains. Zip - Nada. Just endless battle and grind (plus extinguishing a fire - which was a start). Even that kept me going as battle is tremendously well done.
But didn´t they know that superheroes do OTHER stuff than fighting from time to time ? And if it´s just getting a cat from a tree or lifting a bus to save some citizens...
I have heard NOTHING so far that they will put stuff like that into either COH or CHAMPIONS.
It's gonna be like D & D. If you haven't been all over the card game, pen and paper or w/e, then you will be a nub. My prediction for this game:
FAIL
....Youre dumb....................................No, its gonna be like an MMORPG(Cuz, thats what it is) and if you play it, for more than five minutes, youll probably pick it up.
MMOs rarely introduce anything that is surprisingly new. Most innovations come in small steps. What CO will do is learn (hopefully) from the mistakes of CoH and make the necessary adjustments. You don't have to be revolutionary to make a great game. Look at WoW.
Still, CO will have little innovations like a personal arch-nemesis that you create and will try to thwart your character. I think that's a pretty novel idea. And it will be made for the 360 so expect it to launch within 2 years. Considering consoles have a limited lifespan, any launch longer than that would be crippling to the game.
Indeed.
One thing they are taking to a new level is trying to beef up solo play after taking alot of player feedback from EQ and WoW, the multitude who post about wanting soloable content. And Cryptic is listening:
" From the very start of Champions Online, we've kept in mind this basic principle: a player must be able to solo the entire game. That doesn't mean that a person can do everything by himself, but this rule does mean that there must be enough content for a player to reach the end game if he only plays solo." -- http://www.champions-online.com/dev_blog/soloing_in_champions_online
Again, what the gaming companies have realized it's all about the end game experience. Otherwise they are dead in the water. They need and want those recurring charges. That's where the money is.
