I was able to download and install a few patches for AoC this morning, two of which were about 180megs each. After they installed I was able to click the 'Play' button and the game actually started. I didnt expect to be able to log in and play but hey, lets watch the opening cinematic! But I couldnt even do that. I could hear all the sounds but the screen was black. It gets to what I assume is the log in screen because the music just loops and theres still no picture. Do you guys think I should reinstall before tomorrow?

    Also, I can see the mouse cursor the entire time. Just no picture. Could this be some kind of graphics problem?

    Ok, quick fix as I had this problem too....

    Try running the "simple config" application and checking the "run in window" check box.

    Then re-run AoC client and you should now see it all. From ingame options you can then turn it back to full screen.

    Worked for me.

    The first time I hit play last night the same thing happened. Then when I reloaded the game again I had video and was able to watch the opening cinematic. My friends had the same problem but when the restarted the game they still had the black screen. Then one of them tried it in window mode and they could see the video as well. Try running the game in window mode.

    I would relax until the servers is actual is up. Or better, wait until the release.

    We cannot know if anything working until the server is up.

    This happened to me the first time.  Just try it again, it'll fix itself.  No need to get worried.

    Servers online or offline should not impact the open cinematics. This seems to be a bug of some kind.

    It seems for some, rerunning the client will clear the issue and for others, like myself, running in windowed mode atleast once is required.   I ran the client a few times before hand and it was still blank/pointer/sound. Windowed cleared it.

  • same thing with me. i just reran the cleint and it worked

    I'm not in this beta, did the pvp beta, but I'd suspect it is a resolution detection/setting issue if it clears up the second time it is run and not an issue for some people.  Remember to report it as a bug.

    I'm sure some will cry doom because of this ( ' ;

    I read you need the most actual video drivers. Sounds like something like this. Be mindful, if you install NVidia drivers to uninstall the old ones first, or it might not properly update.

    Hope ya get it. ^^
