It just seems like the fans and the haters are in overdrive with this game. More so than other recent releases, perhaps it's just all the hype.
I have to admit I'm a tad put off by recent events, but, my first hand knowledge is limited at best. As a result I'll wait and see versus choosing a side quite yet.
Well, time to head up to the store and stock up on popcorn. Mmmmm .......... popcorn.

No one really expects a smooth launch I don't get it why so many people presume that.
I am guessing that launch will not be a perfect one, but I will be there to give my support and feedback to Funcom so they fix the game in incoming patch.
It is not solution to just drop the game at minor sings of trouble.
Asian nation games suck.
Is there any point in this thread that warranted it's creation?
Fans haven't played, the haters have?

I am going all-in for this one. In the next 30 days I expect to spend around $1200 just for AoC. If it fails.... well if it fails I now have a gaming computer...

Perhaps you need to read a bit more about Aion before you lump it in with other Asian games. I think you will be hearing more WoW comparisons the closer to launch (even though that would be off as well).
As far as AoC, it might not be the most smooth launch but it shoud do "ok". I think because of games such as Dark and Light, Vanguard, Pirates of the Burning sea, etc, players have just gone off the deep end with their expectations. If they don't start changing their paradigms they are going to need therapy.

to answer your question in the topic real simple,
NO, not for me anyways, if i like the game i won't care about anything else and that is all that matters.
Not really, which makes it fit right in with most of the rest of the threads lately.
There are trolls everywhere and for every game. Especially just before launch. MMORPG.com is getting worse with the ramblings of trolls, and those too lazy to do a little googlin on the subject before they mindlessly post. Heck, even the official forums are getting worse. Never-the-less i would not worry about it. Fucom learned alot from thier AO and did a BEAUTIFUL job with TLG (STILL WAITING ON THE THIRD ONE BTW FUNCOM). Don't let your mind be convereted by the recent fourm doom-sayers. Besides there is nothing we can really say until OFFICIAL launch on May 17-20th.
Dont really care about the haters/fanboi's at all to be honest,I am an individual and will try the game myself if I enjoy it I will play it regardless what other's say,If I dont enjoy it I wont play again regardless of what other's say,I earn my money so will spend it the way I please.
/end rant.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

It will be a good launch. Yeah simply cose i say so. Well, I have that feel, but anything can happen.
Hear! Hear!
That's what it's all about... Nothing more and nothing less...
It really doesnt matter what anyone says......but the proof is in the pudding, the launch of AoC retail will be the vital point in this games future, if it goes badly it will never recover as history as shown, if it goes well then the game will thrive.
Not much point discussing anything else really this game MUST suceed wihtin the first few weeks of release there is no 'second chance' in MMO launches and thats a fact.

Not sure why that is a fact,I take it you never played WoW at launch?server's downtime was a nightmare,Class inbalance, broken quest's to name a few,Yes Vanguard bombed when it launched and LoTRO had a real nice launch but that isnt to say a game cant recover from lets say a dissapointing launch.

The first 30 days are crucial.
If they manage to nail most of the bugs within this time people will be more likely to continue to subscribe, assuming that the game is engaging enough and has enough substance to warrant that.

Well that was then and this is now is basically my answer to that. Vanguard proved IMO the problem with modern releases being unworthy at the time of release and with other MMOs coming out soon, AoC has to prove it can deliver quickly.
The climate for MMOs has changed significantly from when WoW was released, back then it was common practise to release badly performing retails, that time has gone surely you realise that fact?
If it makes you feel better I will say that if AoC releases a bad retail, then 'IMHO' in todays market that will equate to a permanent reduction in its potential user base which it will never fully recover from.

I don't know why people say WoW had a bad launch. The games launch was freaking awesome. It was not until a week after launch that the problems showed up because so many people started playing. I played successfully for the first week of the game with little or no problems and not a single broken quest. I was level 25ish before the loot problem started (getting stuck looting because the server was crowded.) I expect Conan to have a few problems but it definetely should be a smooth launch.
Currently Playing: Nothing (waitinf for WAR)
Retired: AC2, EVE, DAoC, EQ, WoW
interesting release? aint all releases of mmo´s that ? so is it gonna be smooth ? - No, i dont think so. There will be alot of server lag, and dc / waiting for quests mobs to spawn. This is not something speciel for Conan, it has just been y experience for other mmo´s. Peronally im waiting for WAR, but im not blind for this game either. But, i like what they are doing for WAR lunch, all who has CE can login a few days befor, and start doing quests. that helps with the quests mobs, since alot will allready have done the quest, and same goes with creating account. Would be sweet of they did the same for all mmo´s to come. But im looking forward to the release of this game, to get some feedback, perhaps i even gonna try it out if there is alot of positiv feedback
It's not just the MMORPG community but the entire MMORPG industry is going to be watching the launch. AoC will have ripples throughout the whole post-WoW genre depending on how it does.
No pressure Funcom

Funny thing is, I think AoC has no choice -BUT- to be called a failure. With the Hype generated by overzealous fans, the amount of false information being spread by supposed Beta-Leakers and Doomsayers, the knowledge that -NO- MMO ever had a perfect start and the realization that more and more gamers expect everything handed to them on a platter and best for free, I think this combination is rather deadly.
Here's my theory on how launch will go:
May 17th: Servers open up. Some people were not able to download the release client fully, due to heavy load on the distribution servers or their slow Internet Connections. The first threads crying havoc will be opened. Meanwhile, those who have the client installed log on to play for a bit of relatively easy-going and well polished low-level content.
May 20th: Retail day. Floodgates open up. Servers become a little unstable Another series of DoomThreads are created because of possible server crashes, coupled with one or the other bugs and client-freezes.
The time after that. Any positive feedback will be lost among the shouts of outrage from the people who do not get a perfect start into the game. The negative aspects (which undoubtedly will be there in one way or another), will be blown way out of proportion.
6-12 Months after that. Subscriber numbers settle at a comfortable number and gradually begin to increase in a slow but steady manner. WoW has not been killed, Warhammer comes out to be jumped by the "Game-Hoppers" and those who continue playing enjoy the continued support and upgrades to AoC made by FC to eliminate the problems present at launch and add new content as they go.
*ponders* Yeah...I think i can see it happening that way.

I can agree with that.
As much as I can't wait for this, I'm not touching until at least June.
You know the saying "Don't play on patch day?" Well I like to wait at least a weeks for at least some of the kinks to get worked out by the rest of you lemmings.
Oh and I will also avoid these forums, missing all the "OMG ths gam SUX!!! i cant geton!!!1!!!1" posts.
