If you need a good walking simulator Good!
If you want to fight WWII: Terrible.
First of all LordZon your wrong just get into a transport if your walking that is your choice. Yeah if you are looking for an unrealistic shooter game with no strategy outside of bunny hopping your way across a map, this is not the game for you, and you will get owned.
If your looking for a tactical WWII simulator with a open continuous (aka no zoning) battlefield, planes, tanks, troop transports, ship warfare, bombers, AA, etc. Then this might be the game for you.
Be warned though that there is a HUGE learning curve. I would rate this as one of the most challenging games to learn and almost impossible to master. A lot of times you will get shot and you will have no idea where you were shot from. Other times you may get 5 kills or more. This is a very frustrating game at times, but if you are looking for realism this is the game for you. If your looking for BF or COD type of game look elsewhere …Maybe planetside?
Also note I do not know what the population is like, maybe a vet will stop by and let you know.
I just began playing this game. i have to say that I am enjoying it so far. It does have a learning curve. I wandered around for about an hour, just to check it out. Then I ran across a guy who must have seen my deer in the headlight look, either that or it said noob over my head in game. lol. Anyway he got me hooked up to his teamspeak server and gave me the lowdown on the game. That definately dropped the learning curve down quite abit.
IF you are a noob, your ID over your head is green till you have rank or time in game. Lets the squads find you and ease the curve. Join a squad if you haven't and you will enjoy the game much more.
I played this game from day one, and let me tell you it is probably one of the best games ever made. Let's step back from that for a moment. I have played many FPS games and if you’re looking for fast paced, jump around like a moron combat this is not the game for you. If you are looking for a game that takes strategy and patience, then this is the game for you. This game has everything you could want in a realistic war game. (The active battlefield is one of my favorite aspects of the game.)
There are a few things make this game a bummer one being it is old, but they do constantly update it with new vehicles etc so it is nice they are still moving along, and two there isn’t nearly enough people playing all the time for it to always be exciting.
It would be great if a big company with some money picked this game up and revamped the graphics, added the other countries into the war (IE: USA and Italy), and eventually get a larger player base.
I don’t know, I would like to see others opinions on this, but I talk to my few friends that I played this game with on a regular basis, and the stories that you gain from playing this game is just amazing. I have never played an FPS where I actually remembered a kill, but with this game it’s like every kill you get is well deserved and has a special place in your memory. Ah I am getting sentimental now .
I really think more people should give this game a try, as it is a ton of fun, one thing you must get into a good squad (although it's brigade's now or something like that), the more people you have fighting with you, the more fun you will have.
Enjoy!
Get the free trail and try it, this is one of those game with can not be discribed in words as it can not be compared to anything.
not a bad game, loved it couple years ago .
Is this the same game as WW2 Online: Blitzkrieg?
the game has had so many new features added, it bears very little resemblance to the original release.Battleground Europe is the closest thing to fighting a real war you can get on a computer. a persistant battlefield running 24 hours a day. a place where there is something for everyone. you want instant intense action, just spawn 1 of 7 different infantry types at a captured depo in an enemy held town, or at a nearby mobile spawn, or jump from an airplane as a paratrooper right into the action.if you like you can choose from a variety of different tanks, or scout cars, spawned at a forward base not too far from town. if you are more conservative and patient, you can choose to be an anti-tank gun, or anti-aircraft gun, setup in an ambush/defenseive postition,or you could choose to ba a truck to tow AT/AA guns, resupply ammo,or deploy as a mobile spawn near town.
if the ground war is not for you, you can choose from different fighter and bomber aircraft. bomb towns and forward bases in a Close Air Support role, or bomb enemy factory's in a strategic role to slow production of equipment and new vehicle types (BE has a crude timeline called Reasearch and Developement Phase that see more advanced equipment as time goes by in a campainge) or go on fighter combat air patroll.
Battleground Europe,to some, is just a game. to most, it is a real and bitter war. morale has a big effect on the war. some days your getting beat,on the defensive. other days your on the attack, beating down the enemy.
Nonsense..Moblie Spawn Points put you no further than 1400 meters from your target and minimum is 400 meters, you can ride on trucks, tanks. You walk only because you want to, or you haven't played in years, or you are posting what someone who has not played in years or ever was told and you are repeating. Walking sim..nonsense.
It's a great game. The learning curve is steep so joining a squad is probably the first move you should make. This is easily accomplished through the squad tab where recruiters place adverts you can click to join. The walking thing is probably from about 5 years ago. Now you spawn into mobile spawn points which are close to the battle but you still need to exercise patience and caution when approaching. If you go charging headlong towards the action you'll hear a shot and be dead pretty quick.
Give the free trial a go, that'll give you enough time to decide if it's for you or not. I'd also pick up a cheap joystick if you want to experience everything this game has to offer as driving / flying is pretty hard (impossible) without one.
Actually driving AFVs and ATGs is better done with keyboard+mouse. I still use joystick to move ATG but mouse for shooting. This is the only way to hit anything beyond 1k. Joystick lack precision. The only one thing i can think of for joystick and AFVs is that you can use hats for looking around on comanderless german tanks.
Flying yes. Most definitely.
I decided to post my view on this.
I think it is a great game once you get used to it. It can be complicated at first if you run solo and without a squad. Meaning you run around all over looking for a fight. If you get into a good squad then you will find it fun and learn how to get to the action.
Also like others have said this is a sim not an arcade game.
The main reason I find my self resubbing is because of the community I have always found it to be the best one out there.
Thanks for the tip, i'll give that a try.
