Should I Keep Playing?

BigdavoBigdavo Member UncommonPosts: 1,863

I'm just wondering if I should keep playing this game?

I'm a lvl 32 naval officer playing in Australia, which has only one server based in the USA somewhere, so far I have only payed 16 bucks for subscription towards this game (as there is deal here where you don't have to pay for the actual game + get free trials).

Since I have been playing, which is only like a bit over 2 weeks or so, the population has been 'light', I admit I have been enjoying playing the game despite the mostly tedious and grindy missions and abysmal avatar combat. The parts that have managed to grab me for this long and made my playing experience enjoyable has been the interesting ship combat and off course getting new ships. At the rate I was going I saw myself continuing to play this at least till AoC came out, but then...

I log in today and do a couple of missions, I come across some particualarly tedious missions and think, crap I really don't feel like doing these without grouping, I get bored and start chatting to my guild. During the chat I talk to my guild leader who has been playing the game since beta and knows pretty much everything about the game, he reveals that he sees this game going down when AoC hits and also says that he doubts the server will ever get over the 'light' population... and to top it off he's trying to sell his account.

All this got me thinking, It's not that I don't enjoy the game, but I can't see myself playing a rapidly? sinking ship and I can't stand the thought of playing an mmo with so little people in it. So I ask you guys, should I keep playing or is this game truly going down the sink? I don't want to get far in this game only to get bitchslapped when it shuts down.

Unless you have another game you want to play yes, in the meantime just login to Potbs for short sessions until they add more content..

You can transfer ur char to a populated server, like Roberts maybe.

16 bucks isn't really the end of the world (or atleast it shouldn't be for mmorpg-player  ) so I wouldn't mind on that, but if you like to play games where you can find more other players - this game wasn't for you there are atleast over 30 games that have more players. Sorry buddy but let go early, don't wait it to sink.

The OP mentioned they are playing on the Australian server - it's not like the other servers in PotBS.  For ANZAC players Invincible is the only server available, there is no way to transfer to it or from it. (given they are playing with the Telestra version - it's still possible to play the NA/EU servers if they buy a copy of the NA/EU game of course)

That is probably the most difficult part and the main reason I would personally suggest not continuing if you aren't wild over the gameplay as is.  In the entirety of the NA/EU market they only have enough players to support 4 servers at any workable level (probably only enough currently for two honestly).

It seems to me that given the lower relative population to draw from, FLS would have to capture an absolutely huge proportion of the AUS gaming populous to get enough players on Invincible to make it functional and fun to play.

Up to you in the end, but I can think of better uses for $15-16 a month than paying for a game you don't really enjoy and don't play much.

This is an interesting question that could be applied to many mmos. Even if you like the game but it is definetly a sinking ship it is hard to stay. I do not think PoTBS is a sinking ship. It may have low populations but SOE will keep it alive for months to come. The key to your situation is, even though you like the game you admit you did not feel like grinding out and seemed to feel a bit bored. You use words like tedious, grindy, and abysmal, that is your answer. If you loved the game I would say stay. However the way you discribe your feelings about the game I would say move on.

If you're playing for free, you have little to lose in giving it a fair try.

I loved the game for about 2-3 weeks, then found myself logging in less and less as time went on. There's not a whole lot to do in POTBS. What's there is fun to a point, but for me the world is way too tiny, zero exploration, all nations play pretty much the same, on and on.

The ship combat is fun but there's not much else to do in the game other than that. So, it's easy to understand how you feel.

If you're not having fun, then you've already made your decision.

Its up to you alone and not really a question anyone can answer for you i'm afraid.  However the fact you are asking it probably means you are thinking of not playing :)

The answer to your question is as easy as answering the the following question

Do you find the game fun?

if its not fun then by all means you should be looking for another game, there are plenty of games out there, I am sure you can find one that you find fun
